Gillian Jacobs got her big break playing Britta Perry in Dan Harmon's NBC comedy for all six seasons. Before getting the life-changing gig, Jacobs graduated from Juilliard and was involved with the theatre scene. Aside from starring in a few movie projects, she appeared in The Book of Daniel, which served as her first TV job in 2006. Jacobs also had roles in Fringe, Law & Order, and Royal Pains prior to being cast in Community.

While playing a core character on Community for six years, Jacobs continued building her resume of acting credits. In addition to voice roles in Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, Monsters vs. Aliens, American Dad!, and Adventure Time, Jacobs had stints in The Good Wife, Comedy Bang! Bang!, and Girls. During Community's broadcast run, the actress also grew her movie filmography. In that span, Jacobs notably worked on Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Walk of Shame, and Hot Tub Time Machine 2.
