While the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom's attention over the past week has been focused on the publication of the manga's final bound volume and the surprise all-new epilogue from creator Gege Akutami included within it, the anime side of the franchise has also made headlines. Although this news was somewhat more low-key, it serves as a reminder that fans should not forget there's plenty more of the anime still to enjoy.

A Third Season Has Been Confirmed But Maybe There's More After That

While it’s nothing new for Jujutsu Kaisen fans to witness Sukuna and Yuji in battle —after all, the two clashed in high-stakes combat as early as Chapters #10–11— this depiction stands apart. Manga readers will recognize that the Sukuna portrayed in Yamazaki’s artwork is the fully resurrected version: the same Sukuna who terrorized the Jujutsu sorcery community centuries ago before he was subdued. Notably, this iteration of Sukuna played a central role in the series’ final arc, the "Shinjuku Showdown". In other words, the artwork likely captures the climactic final battle between Sukuna and Yuji—a fight that determines the ultimate fate of the world.

Since the second season's finale in late December 2023, Jujutsu Kaisen fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on the third season. Yamazaki's recent X post offers the closest glimpse into what's in store for the anime series going forward. Notably, the second season concludes around the same point as the manga, where the Culling Game transitions into the climactic showdown between Kenjaku, Sukuna, Gojo, and his disciples. Given this timing, Yamazaki's image suggests not only a third season but potentially a fourth, setting the stage for an epic conclusion.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Is Just the Beginning

The second season finale hints at the Culling Game's commencement, but significant events unfold before Sukuna and Yuji's climactic battle, as depicted in the image. While some plot points might be condensed, crucial storylines cannot be glossed over, including the arrival of Angel - a sorcerer whose singular purpose is to eliminate Sukuna, Yuki Tsukumo's battle against Kenjaku, and the effects of rescuing Megumi's sister. These pivotal moments are essential to the narrative's integrity, suggesting a third season will cover this groundwork before building toward the epic showdown in a fourth season or beyond.

Whatever Yamazaki’s intentions were in posting the image, he succeeded in one key aspect: keeping the excitement alive. While the Jujutsu Kaisen manga serialization may have concluded, the anime series is still very much alive and kicking. In other words, fans need not worry about what to do after the manga’s conclusion. The image hints that fans can look forward to at least two more seasons of top-tier Jujutsu Kaisen anime content.

If the anime production team can maintain the exceptional quality demonstrated in the second season, Yamazaki’s tacit but bold claim that the best days of Jujutsu Kaisen are yet to come may prove to be far more than just idle talk.
