Capcom has finally given more details on the much-wanted Resident Evil 2 remake, revealing the game as part of PlayStation's E3 2018 press conference. The original Resident Evil 2 is seen by many as one of the best survival horror games of all time, and is potentially the best game in the Resident Evil franchise as a whole. Swapping the mansion of the first game for Raccoon City itself, the game upped the ante in almost every respect.
As such, it was no surprise to see Capcom planning to make a ground-up remake of the game. Initially unveiled by the company back in 2015, things then went a little quiet, with whispers of goings on behind the scenes but never much by way of concrete information.

Thankfully, that has all changed due to a pair of video releases from Capcom at E3. The game was proudly unveiled as part of the PlayStation press conference, and it was definitely the perfect place for the Resident Evil 2 remake to be shown off. After all, where would Resident Evil be without that initial run of original PlayStation games? The two trailers of the game can be seen below, and at the top of this article.
Fans of the original Resident Evil 2 might think they know what to expect from the remake, but apparently there are going to be some changes. Whereas some locations will look very similar to those seen in the first game, there are going to apparently be plenty of surprises for both old players and new. From a design perspective, the game is also set to include a new over-the-shoulder camera, which will no doubt be very handy in the cramped areas of the Police Department.
Aside from that, Capcom has confirmed that the game will again contain the stories of both Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, although it has also hinted at some additional game modes from the 1998 version. The developer was also able to confirm when the game is going to see release, with the Resident Evil 2 remake sent to launch on January 25, 2019.
A finite date of release is definitely going to go over well with Resident Evil fans who have been waiting for this game. Old school players will also be pleased to see a traditional Resident Evil game on the cards after Resident Evil 7, which delivered a terrific horror experience but not one that long-term fans of the franchise would have felt familiar with. Hopefully, this means that Capcom is going to maintain some variety with its top horror series.
