Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, and here's everything to know about the show's release date, cast, and story details. The Netflix series will serve as a prequel to Zack Snyder's live-action feature film, which hit the streamer in May 2021. Though Snyder and his wife and business partner, Deborah Snyder, are acting as executive producers, Jay Oliva is at the helm of Lost Vegas, with Shay Hatten writing the animated series.

Expecting they had a hit on their hands, Netflix greenlit an expansion of Snyder's apocalyptic story well before Army of the Dead even had a release date. The core of the fictional universe centers on a team of mercenaries led by Scott Ward (Dave Bautista), who enter a zombie-infested Las Vegas to carry out a vault heist. The remnants of Las Vegas mark the heart of the quarantine zone after a bioengineered zombie broke free from the military convoy, infecting a good portion of the city. Sometime later, Scott and his team must face off with that original advanced zombie, Zeus, and his loyal horde, to carry out the high-stakes mission.

While Snyder and his wife are expected to develop an Army of the Dead sequel film after g a first-look deal with Netflix, the streamer is already gearing up for more titles set in Snyder's new universe. For now, Netflix is focusing on prequels, including a live-action film called Army of Thieves. The project will star Matthias Schweighöfer reprising his fan-favorite role as Ludwig Dieter during the early stages of the outbreak. Also directed by Schweighöfer, the prequel will serve as an international heist featuring Dieter's safe-cracking abilities. The movie also stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Guz Khan, and Ruby O. Fee. At the time of writing, there isn't an exact release date attached to Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas just yet, but a timeframe has been revealed. Army of Thieves finished filming in late 2020, and the movie is currently expected to release in the fall of 2021. Netflix is planning to space out the future Army of the Dead projects, with Lost Vegas on track for a spring 2022 debut. Seeing as it's anime, the 6-episode series will go through an entirely different process in of production compared to the other titles in the franchise.

Like Army of Thieves, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas will feature a few familiar actors to fans of the original movie. Dave Bautista is voicing Scott Ward in the prequel tale, and he's not the only figure reprising his role. Other returning characters include Scott's daughter, Kate Ward (Ella Purnell), and fellow mercenaries, Maria Cruz (Ana de la Reguera), Marianne Peters (Tig Notaro), and Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick). Despite playing prominent characters in Lost Vegas, the series will be lead by a figure named Rose, who Joe Manganiello voices. Other newcomers to the franchise will be voiced by notable names like Christian Slater, Vanessa Hudgens, Ross Butler, Yetide Badaki, Jena Malone, Nolan North, and Ray Porter.

Lost Vegas will dive into the universe by presenting the early days of the outbreak, which Deborah Snyder described (via intended purpose of Zeus and his bioengineered DNA, which was an experiment that went horribly wrong. Scott's origins will also be on display, as will those who were heavily featured in the initial movie. Based on the action-packed montage at the start of Army of the Dead, Scott and the other mercenaries put it all on the line to save humanity in Las Vegas before the government quarantined the city. The group's efforts will be on full display in Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, including the traumas they endured within the city's limits.
