In a cast filled with interesting and iconic characters, Sasha Braus stands out as one of manga's protagonist Eren Jeager or the ultra-intense Levi Ackerman. Now, Sasha’s fans can enjoy one of her more memorable experiences in the manga with the new “Meat that Sasha Stole” snack, now available in New Day convenience stores across Japan.
In addition to her courage and vivaciousness, one of Sasha’s more endearing traits was her appetite, which often perked up at the most interesting times. As a result of a childhood where food was somewhat scarce, as well as her general love for food, Sasha could often be found in situations where she was either eating food, stealing food, or hoarding food to eat later or share with her teammates. To be sure, her cravings for food and meat, in particular, were demonstrated in her unexpected and shocking death, in which her very last word was, “meat.”
According to a report from In Attack of Titan chapter 3, as Sasha’s team prepares the cannons along Wall Rose, she arrives for duty by telling her teammates that she’s “borrowed” some meat from the “senior officer private stock.” While Eren and the other teammates are initially shocked by Sasha’s actions, she eventually convinces them to consider the meat as a pre-victory celebration for the eventual vanquishing of the Titan threat. Unfortunately, before Sasha or her teammate have a chance to taste the meat, their position is attacked by a titan. In the ensuing chaos, neither Sasha nor her teammates were ever able to have a bite of meat Sasha stole, but the New Day convenience store gives fans a chance to taste what Sasha missed.
The snack is a riff on the Japanese “all-in-one" meal known as onigiri. Traditionally, onigiri is a rice ball that is wrapped around a filling such as a tuna salad or barbecue beef. However, the New Day snack ditches the filling in favor of topping the rice ball with a slice of meat that looks surprisingly like what a slice of the meat that Sasha stole in the manga would look like and one that Sasha would surely accept.
The snack, which retails for about U.S. $1.45 or 168 yen, is exactly the type of snack that would not only satisfy Sasha Braus’ bottomless appetite, but also the hunger of any fan, or erby, who buys it. Indeed, it seems to be a snack that, if it were available in the manga Attack on Titan, would find wide among Eldians, and maybe even a titan or two.
