Yes, there was hardship, and there was a loss that irreversibly impacted the world and all of its inhabitants, but Strange's sacrifice put the pieces in place in order to be restored at a later date. His depth of knowledge, understanding, and power all became invaluable in overcoming Thanos, and when it came time to return, Strange was right beside all the other heroes with an army of sorcerers, ready to fight.

However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home does show how much the hero has advanced in of his powers, despite losing the title of Sorcerer Supreme. In fighting Wanda Maximoff, Strange was able to overcome the powerful Scarlet Witch when the entire Illuminati team of Earth-838 fell.
