Baldur's Gate 3 is a massive game with countless decisions that influence its big events but also impact small details like the characters' dialogue. Because of the way decisions affect the resulting dialogue, there are a lot of lines that don't appear in a playthrough due to the circumstances that need to be met to access them. However, these rare lines are often humorous and can be worth hunting for.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Baldur's Gate 3.]

Baldur's Gate 3 rewards taking time to explore the world and interact with its inhabitants. But there's also dialogue that requires more specific triggers like frequent interactions with companions, specific party , and choices. With the help of save files, it's possible to make selections to see the consequences and conversations they spark and have a safety net if the outcome doesn't fit with the desired path of that playthrough. And this style of save scumming in BG3 means there are more opportunities to stumble upon rare dialogue.

10 Astarion's Murder Memory

Astarion looking mischievous in Baldur's Gate 3.

One of the first Dark Urge-specific scenes is when the Dark Urge wakes up at camp to find they murdered Alfira. If Astarion is the only companion that's been recruited at this point, he has a string of dialogue about the incident that's specific to the situation because he and the Dark Urge are the only ones who could've killed Alfira. The Dark Urge tells Astarion that they don't killing Alfira, which results in him mentioning his casual relationship with murder, then saying, "I do everyone I've killed in the last five minutes." Given the circumstances, he makes a fair point.

9 Stop Licking It

Gale of Baldur's Gate 3 looks confused as he speaks to a friend.

In Act 2, the party might stumble upon the body of a large spider in the Gauntlet of Shar. For whatever reason, interacting with it brings up the choice to lick the spider meat with the option to lick it a second time. Selecting these options repeatedly leads to an annoyed Gale yelling, "Stop licking the damn thing!" Considering the narrator says that the meat hurts the character's stomach, listening to Gale might be for the best.

8 Breaking The Fourth Wall

A close-up of Karlach staring at the player in Baldur's Gate 3.

Agreeing to let Karlach try a Cleric technique on the character results in her directly addressing the player in a rather eerie conversation. Given the uncertainty of her fate with the Infernal Engine, it might not be surprising that Karlach asks, "Do you know how all of this ends? You, me, this adventure?" And yet, her biggest concern is in her final question, "Are you having fun?" and she's thrilled if the dialogue confirming that it's been fun is selected.

7 Minthara's Webbing

Minthara has a sad expression in Baldur's Gate 3

This dialogue requires recruiting Minthara and having her in the party when watching Dribbles the Clown at the Circus of the Last Days in Act 3. Volunteering Minthara to be Dribbles' assistant brings up the option to say, "Go Minthara! Tell the one about the man who married a Drider!" To which Minthara will reply, "It was a beautiful webbing."'

6 Good Dog Biscotti

Baldur's Gate 3 Biscotti waiting to be called a good dog.

Baldur's Gate 3 can be completed without ever using speak with animals, but the dialogue that the animals of Faerûn have to say is worth hearing for any animal lover. In Act 3 by the Rivington Waypoint, one of the villagers has a dog named Biscotti. Speaking with Biscotti while using speak with animals reveals that they just really, really want to be called a good dog. Luckily, characters have the option to tell Biscotti they're a good dog as many times as they want.

5 Astarion Was Right There

Baldur's Gate 3 The Blood of Lathander Legendary Weapon.

Trying to get the Blood of Lathander in Baldur's Gate 3 without the Dawnmaster's Crest results in the solar laser security system activating, and talking to Astarion afterward if he was in the party shows that he wasn't thrilled at being exposed to that danger. After his first bit of dialogue, select "I thought the Mind Flayer parasite protects you from light?" This results in Astarion saying, "Well, apparently there's a limit. Somewhere between a nice summer's day and the full, concentrated power of the sun!"

4 Go, Boo!

Minc smiling at the player in Baldur's Gate 3.

Boo is generally associated with Minsc, but any character can throw him while in combat. The result is a set of unique voice lines that characters say when they throw Boo at enemies. From Jaheira's "Go on, rodent - we both know you like me better anyway!" to Karlach referencing the "do a barrel roll" line made famous by Starfox 64 when she says, "Do a somersault!"

3 Scratch And Owlbear Cub

The owlbear cub, like a giant owl on all fours, and the scruffy white dog Scratch, rest at camp in Baldur's Gate 3.

Having both Scratch and the Owlbear Cub at camp in BG3 results in a cutscene in the middle of the night where a sound wakes up the character and has the option to check on the animals. Being under the effect of Speak with Animals during this conversation makes it both heartwarming and a bit sad. Scratch says that he and the Owlbear have become the best of friends, and he refers to the character as master or mistress, itting that his previous owner would be glad that he's found the character.

2 Astarion And The Mirror

Astarion in a purple-dyed outfit in Baldur's Gate 3.

As a Vampire Spawn, Astarion has no reflection, and this is a topic that comes up in a scene at camp where he's trying to see the scars on his back. It's possible to come across a Magic Mirror in Blighted Village while completing a side quest that lets the character change their appearance. However, if Astarion is being controlled and looks into the mirror as a creature with no reflection, it results in the line "Lacking any evidence to the contrary, you assume you look amazing."

1 The Dark Urge's Confessional

A reptilian player character in Baldur's Gate 3, representing the Dark Urge Origin character.

The Dark Urge in Baldur's Gate 3 receives plenty of unique dialogue options through the game, and one gem of a reaction to their murderous tendencies comes from Ettvard Needle in Act 3. Ettvard is the editor-in-chief of the Baldur's Mouth Gazette, and he's planning on smearing the party's reputation by saying they caused bloodshed at a circus. The Dark Urge can share some of the most heinous crimes they've committed due to the urges, which leads to Ettvard saying, "Gods, the untold depravity... it's unprintable! I'll be out of syndication if I print your gore smut confessional!"

These pieces of dialogue are found in certain circumstances, but they're far from being the only bits of conversation that can be found from exploring all Faerûn has to offer. These hidden gems help make the game more replayable and reward selecting different options for every choice presented throughout the journey. Between the size of the game and the large patches it continues to receive, it'll be some time before every secret is found in Baldur's Gate 3.
