According to the recently renamed Ripple Effect Studios, DICE LA, rebranded as Ripple Effect Studios earlier in the week.
DICE has been developing Hourglass, a desert map with a sandstorm and tornado (along with other environmental hazards). But, like it has done before, DICE and Ripple Effect Studios will also feature some beloved, older maps in its next game.
During EA Play Live 2021, DICE’s General Manager Oskar Gabrielson and Ripple Effect Studios' General Manager Christian Grass sat down to briefly talk about some of the "new" features present in Battlefield 2042. After answering questions about the tornado and other environmental hazard events, the interview turned towards the topic of some yet-to-be revealed contributions that Grass has been working on. When asked about his secret work, Grass replied, "What I can say about it is that one of the components of this experience that we're creating is that we're adding some of the fan favorite maps back into Battlefield 2042."
Grass then added that fans would have to wait until Battlefield 2042's launch in October to see how exactly these maps are incorporated. However, a little over two weeks ago, it was reported by leakers that Fortnite's Creative mode, where vehicles from Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 1 will exist in the same game, for example.
The leaker who first revealed this sandbox mode, Tom Henderson, has repeatedly proven to be reputable when it comes to Battlefield news. With a high-ranking executive hinting at the return of old Battlefield maps, Henderson's report now looks like it will be accurate yet again. But, as stated above, Grass and his associates will be pretty tight-lipped about the whole affair until the game launches later this year. Battlefield 2042 will be shaking up the Battlefield formula quite a bit when it releases in October and, at least based on the information made public, it looks like there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Battlefield 2042 will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on October 22, 2021.
