Laden with behind-the-scenes drama and controversy, the film has nevertheless managed to score an irable opening at the box office, indicating that Pugh's latest theatrical release may overcome its negative reviews.

Though negative critical reception have put a damper on the financial success of the film, Pugh has unilaterally received praise for her performance therein, being hailed as the film's saving grace. Regardless of the ultimate fallout from this surprisingly dramatic feature, Pugh is certain to keep getting meaty roles like this in the future.

Although the script was criticized, its talented cast didn’t go unrecognized. Pugh expertly faded into her character, showing exactly how talented she was before she was a household name. The film has since become one of Pugh's highest-grossing films so far, though the actress's future leading roles would prove even more profitable and higher-regarded in of critical reception.

Malevolent, based on the novel Hush by Eva Konstantopoulos, tells of a group of scam artists who attempt to profit from fake paranormal activity. Pugh stars as Angela Sayers opposite Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Jackson Sayers. The two are a brother and sister team that heads up a paranormal investigative group.

Most critics found that the film lacked the scares that drew many audiences in to view it and ultimately failed to follow a clear path. That being said, these critiques can be blamed on the writing and directing more than the actors in the movie, with Pugh certainly rising above its poor reviews.

Pugh starred in the titular role, which allowed her to flex her acting muscles, and received much applause for her captivating performance. Her vulnerability in the role can be matched by few, establishing the actress as one of the most talented performers working today.

He plans to base the division on each girl's devotion to him. Emma Thompson and Emily Watson play the two older daughters, Goneril and Regan, while Pugh takes on the part of the youngest, Cordelia.

The film was praised for its strong performances and compelling subplots, ultimately managing to bring a sense of freshness to an often-retold tale. Starring opposite several powerful actors and actresses, Pugh manages to hold her own, portending her own star status in the coming years.

Pugh portrays the youngest March sister, Amy. Though dramatic and excitable as a child, she grows into a sensible young woman and talented artist. This often-retold story doesn't feel stale at all, with the reimagined source material and charming cast keeping the narrative strong. Pugh's career would never be the same after this film, which saw her finally display the true range of her acting ability.
