Blizzard has confirmed that there will not be a BlizzCon 2025 after a year of silence, but there is a silver lining on the horizon for fans. The last BlizzCon event took place in 2023 and had been canceled several times prior due to unforeseen circumstances, including the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. While there will not be an event this year, Blizzard has showcased a short teaser revealing BlizzCon 2026 is coming on September 12-13 and will be bigger and better than anything we have seen before.
In a recent X post shared by Blizzard Entertainment, it was confirmed that BlizzCon will be coming back with an in-person event, taking place in the Anaheim Convention Center, once again, just not as soon as fans had hoped. Alongside the short trailer was a press release that went into detail about what fans could expect in 2026.
BlizzCon 2025 Won't Happen, But Gear Up For 2026
Blizzard Entertainment Is Bringing Back Some Fan-Favorite BlizzCon Elements
In a press release posted on March 11, Blizzard Entertainment describes what BlizzCon 2026 might look like for those who cannot wait to take part once again. According to Blizzard, several of the most exciting elements of BlizzCon are coming back, including the Opening Ceremony, the Darkmoon Faire, in-depth s, several competitions, and, of course, hands-on gameplay. They state,
"We’ve come a long way since our first event in 2005. Over the past nearly 20 years since its inception, BlizzCon has inspired us to innovate, push the boundaries of creativity, and deliver once-in-a-lifetime moments."
Blizzard has not touched on why they are not holding a 2025 convention, which is something fans have been curious about throughout this year of silence. No information on a virtual celebration this year has been announced either, which begs the question, "Will there be any form of 2025 BlizzCon? Or is it being skipped entirely?" At the time of writing, those questions remain unanswered.
Blizzard Claims Blizzcon 2026 Will "Elevate This Iconic Celebration"
Previously Skipped Events Could Mean Big Things Are In The Works
The past few years have been a bit different for fans of BlizzCon, as the convention has been skipped six times over the years. The first time fans found out BlizzCon was canceled was back in 2006, having then been once per year until 2012, then being skipped again in 2020 due to COVID shutdowns. Since there will be no convention again this year, it will have been two years in a row that BlizzCon has been skipped.

Two formative leads on World of Warcraft's worldbuilding discuss their design principles, in advance of The War Within's release sometime next year.
Given that Blizzard states several exciting things are coming, one can be hopeful that this next convention will be significantly better than what we saw before to make up for lost time. Hopefully, more details will surface as we get closer to BlizzCon 2026.
