Warning: SPOILERS for Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #5The next major DCEU hero, Blue Beetle, just got the ultimate armor upgrade. Jaime Reyes has been struggling to work in tandem with his beetle, but their new understanding leads to the coolest version of the Blue Beetle armor ever.

Blue Beetle gets his surprise (and emotional) armor upgrade in Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #5 by Josh Trujillo, Adrian Gutierrez, Wil Quintana, and Lucas Gattoni. After getting knocked out in a battle with a few well-meaning of the Justice League, Jaime begins to understand that the problems he's been having understanding Khaji Da, his beetle, are related to the fear they both feel about Jaime's future. Once Jaime reconciles their fear, the two come back stronger than ever.

Blue Beetle New Armor

Khaji Da is finally fully back online with "Legado Armor activated." Jaime's new armor is an amped-up version of his normal Blue Beetle suit. The most notable new features are the electrified pincers on both his back and his arm, meaning he has new bug-themed weapons at his disposal.

Blue Beetle Dreams about the Reach

Jaime Reyes, the third and youngest Blue Beetle, has been struggling with more than just understanding his alien-derived technology. The beginning of this miniseries sees Jaime and his friends Paco and Brenda graduate from high school. Whereas Paco and Brenda know exactly what their future holds—namely college—Jaime is a little more uncertain. Though he knows he's not ready for college, he also doesn't have anything else he wants to do (besides being a superhero), so his parents send him to live with his aunts in Palmera City. There he begins working with Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle, and trying to understand why it seems like the Reach—an invading alien empire—is after him again, and why his beetle has been malfuctioning.

Not only Jaime's armor upgrade is a cool new look for this soon-to-be movie star, but it's also a culmination of his character arc over the course of Blue Beetle: Graduation Day. Notably, the armor isn't activated until Jaime confronts his fears about the future, which then helps him better understand that Khaji Da has been malfunctioning because the beetle is also afraid: both for Jaime's future and the possible threat of the Reach. By unlocking his new armor, Jaime proves that he can overcome this fear, and even if he doesn't know just what his future holds, he knows two things: he can always trust Khaji Da, and he makes a great superhero.

Jaime Reyes' Blue Beetle armor has always been a cool, technological look for this legacy character, and this upgrade only adds even more flair to the costume. With only one more issue left of Blue Beetle: Graduation Day, hopefully fans will see the new armor in action in the final issue—and see Jaime appear again in a new series sooner rather than later.
