The show will follow Donnie Wahlberg's Danny Reagan as he moves from New York City to Boston to continue his career in law enforcement. After a wonderful run, Blue Bloods finally ended after CBS unexpectedly canceled it, signaling there would be no Blue Bloods season 15. Fortunately, it is not the end of the Reagan family's stories, as the Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue will still follow Danny's life and likely feature cameos or references to his family back in New York. With the new show comes one great update, and it has all to do with the patriarch of the new Boston police family Danny finds himself working alongside.

Why Ernie Hudson's Reverend Peters Is The Perfect Replacement For Frank Raegan In Boston Blue

Peters Can Offer A Fresh Perspective

Ernie Hudson in Quantum Leap

While it can be difficult to imagine anyone replacing Tom Selleck's legacy as Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods, Ernie Hudson is the perfect person for the job. For one thing, Hudson is similarly legendary as an actor, as Selleck and Hudson both made their debut to stardom in the 1980s. Thus, Hudson is considered an elder statesman of the entertainment industry, as is Selleck, and he brings a similar gravitas and wisdom to his roles. When Frank Reagan spoke, people listened, and it's likely to be the same for Hudson's reverend in Boston Blue; both the character and the actor carry weight when they're on screen.

Secondly, Hudson's experience and role as a Black man offers the spinoff a different perspective when it comes to policing. Blue Bloods was a predominantly white show, centering on an Irish-American, Catholic family, which necessarily brought a specific culture to the series. In contrast, Boston Blue will feature a Black family at its center, bringing different perspectives and cultural storylines to the world of law enforcement, making it a refreshing change from Blue Bloods' focus.
