Combat is an important part of Divinity: Original Sin 2, and the protection and special abilities granted by the Captain Armor set are desirable for multiple characters. The Captain's Set is part of the Four Relics of Rivellon free DLC, which added four new sets of armor. One of these allows you to gain a special item to charm enemies, giving you a new way to win battles.
Divinity 2's Captain Armor set can be unlocked through the "Threads of a Curse" quest. There are three pieces of Captain Sech Zapor’s wardrobe to collect, and all can be found during the first act of the game. Once players get all three pieces, they gain Tyrant’s Charm, which grants the ability to charm enemies, an ability that becomes especially important in the late game.
How To Obtain The Captain Armor Set
Explore The First Major Area In The Game
The "Threads of a Curse" quest to get Divinity 2's Captain set begins and ends all within or surrounding Fort Joy, where the early game takes place. There are a few different ways to encounter this mission because Divinity: Original Sin 2 encourages multiple play styles, but this is one of the easiest ways to complete the quest.

Divinity Original Sin 2: How To Get Four Relics of Rivellon (All Armor Sets)
Divinity Original Sin 2's latest update Four Relics of Rivellon features brand new quests and items. Discover these secrets with this guide.
Three different pieces comprise the total Captain Armor's set, including these parts:
- Captain's Charismatic Coat
- Captain's Jaunty Hat
- Captain’s Dextrous Heels
Each part of the "Threads of a Curse" quest will reward you with a different piece of armor, but there are ways to get everything and skip the mission. An NPC named Captain Sech Zapor is the original owner of the armor who you meet during the quest. Although you can follow his instructions to gain the Armor, you can also challenge this character to a fight and claim the Captain set from their dead body.

Where To Find Every Piece Of The Captain Armor Set
Start And Finish A Character's Quest
To find the pieces of the Captain Armor set in Divinity: Original Sin 2, you will need to travel to three coordinates around Divinity 2's early game area. First, you may come across an Odd Skeletal Arm sticking out of the sand at coordinates (X:362, Y:81). It points in a certain direction, vaguely giving you a path to follow in pursuit of the armor.
You can pull the Arm out of the ground, and whenever you drop it, it continues to point in the same direction. Your party should follow where the hand points until you see a chest it is pointing towards.
Eventually, you will come across a chest surrounded by a purple dome at coordinates (X:535, Y:23). It will curse anyone who touches it, but casting Bless removes the curse. You can open the chest to meet Captain Sech Zapor, who you can talk to and start the "Threads of a Curse" quest. If you have completed "The Valut of Braccus Rex" quest earlier, you can persuade this character further with his Soul Jar found in that mission.

10 Things Divinity: Original Sin 2 Does Better Than Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3 was a big step up for Larian Studios, but not everything about its latest title was an improvement over Divinity: Original Sin 2.
By choosing to fight or help Sech Zapor, you begin taking steps to find every piece of the Captain's Armor set. You can find each of the three pieces of the armor in different locations, usually given by Zapor himself or in buried chests. Here are the locations of each part of this fashionable armor:
Captain's Armor Piece |
Location |
How To Get |
---|---|---|
Captain's Charismatic Coat |
(X: 535, Y: 23) |
This piece is given to you when you start the "Threads of the Curse" quest. You can persuade Sech Zapor to give this item to you by handing over his Soul Jar or fight him to take it from his corpse. |
Captain's Jaunty Hat |
(X: 598, Y: 192) |
Go to a cave northeast of the Dragon Beach. If you didn't encounter Zapor earlier, he will be here to offer the same choices as the ones for the Coat. If he isn't here, the Hat will be in a chest you can open here. |
Captain's Dexterous Heels |
(X: 607, Y: 244) |
At this location, you should find a chest containing this armor piece. You need a Shovel to dig this chest up, and you might need a Lockpick to break it open. |

Gaining every piece of the Captain's armor will reward you with the Tyrant's Charm, which comes from completing the "Threads of a Curse" quest in Divinity 2. The Charm's effect gives you a chance to pacify enemies, making them attack your foes instead of your party. This can be an extremely powerful ability in certain encounters, especially when you can turn a powerful opponent into a temporary ally.
Notably, the effect from the Charm works only against enemies who aren't wearing magic armor, limiting its capabilities a little. Enemies have to be close for the item's spell to work, so make sure to move whichever party member is wearing it close to the action. Once you get a handle on how to use the Tyrant's Charm, it will make the effort to get all pieces of the Captain's armor set worth it in Divinity: Original Sin 2.
