Now, finally, she is receiving the posthumous honor of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.Appropriately enough, Fisher will be honored with a ceremony on May 4, 2023 - Star Wars Day. Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, will accept the star on her behalf. "Fans will be over the moon to know that their favorite movie princess Carrie Fisher will be honored with her star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame," Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, observed in an official statement. "Carrie will her Star Wars costars and fellow Walk of Famers Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford on this historic sidewalk." Fisher's star will be just a few feet away from Mark Hamill, and across the street from her mother Debbie Reynolds.
Carrie Fisher Truly Deserves This Hollywood Honor
She may be best known as Princess Leia, but Carrie Fisher was far more than a mere science-fiction princess. Fisher was known for her searing honesty, and her semi-autobiographical novel Postcards from the Edge told of the experience of growing up among Hollywood royalty and her struggles with addiction. She wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation, which released in 1990, and her openness and honesty helped so many people across the globe. Fisher embraced her own imperfections, becoming a tireless advocate for mental health.
A skilled writer, Fisher actually wrote two scenes in Star Wars: The Last Jedi; the poignant reunion between Leia and Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, and Leia's farewell to her friend Amilyn Holdo (played by Laura Dern). Director Rian Johnson later compared the day filming Luke and Leia's reunion to a holy moment in church, as a reverent hush fell over the entire set. "No one's ever really gone," Luke told Leia. Those words ring on now, after Fisher's loss; her star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame serves as a reminder that, though Carrie Fisher is missed, her influence will endure.
