Summary
- The MCU has added many classic Avengers from the Bronze and Silver Ages of Marvel Comics in Phase 4, completing their roster.
- Doctor Druid, Beast, and Wonder Man are still missing from the MCU's portrayal of the traditional Avengers team.
- Moondragon, Quasar, Rick Jones, Tigra, and Two-Gun Kid are other characters who could potentially the MCU in the future.
At this point, only a few classic Avengers have yet to receive representation in the MCU. Even after Marvel debuted its take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in 2012, the MCU went without a large bulk of the team’s comic roster for years. Several icons associated with the group’s history, including Hank Pym and the Wasp, were missing from the MCU for large lengths of time.
Even so, the MCU has since corrected that, adding major Marvel Comics heroes to the MCU in droves. In just Phase 4 alone, it added quite a few Avengers from the Bronze and Silver Ages of Marvel Comics, with characters like Black Knight, Starfox, Hercules, Sersi, Namor, and She-Hulk all showing up in the span of just two years. Thanks to all the expansions the MCU has made to its library of characters, its roster of classic Avengers is nearly complete. Several heroes tied to other Avengers branches and later iterations of the team remain missing, however, but in regards to the traditional version of the group depicted between the 1960s and the late 1980s, there’s just a handful that still need to be introduced.
8 Doctor Druid
Doctor Druid was never exactly a popular hero – even among his peers – but did play an important role in Avengers comics. Under the thrall of Terminatrix, Dr. Anthony Droom a.k.a. Doctor Druid was an occult expert and psychic who served as a major member of the team during the 1980s. After quietly using his mind powers to worm his way into a leadership role, Doctor Druid broke the team apart, an act the character struggled to come back from. Though it’s unlikely he’d ever be used as an Avenger in the MCU, his mystical connections would make him an interesting fit for a show like Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
7 Beast
Surprisingly, it’s actually an X-Men hero who stands out as the biggest Avenger the MCU currently has no known plans to introduce. Since the 2000s, Marvel has tied several of Marvel’s Merry Mutants to the Avengers, but one in particular – Beast – served with the group as far back as the 1970s. During this time, he formed a popular bromance with Wonder Man and took part in several of their adventures. As a founding member of the X-Men and a classic Avenger, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before Beast s the MCU.
6 Wonder Man
The most important Avenger still missing from the MCU is none other than Simon Williams. Better known as Wonder Man, the iconic energy-powered hero and Hollywood actor has enjoyed several memorable stints with the Avengers over the past few decades. Possessing enough strength to rival Thor, Wonder Man is one of the team’s go-to powerhouses when high-level threats emerge.
Wonder Man is also known for playing a fundamental role in Vision’s origin story, as it was his brain patterns Ultron used to create the android. Wonder Man feeling that a Vision is a “copy” of him factors heavily into both characters’ stories, yet the MCU removed Simon from it’s take on Vision’s origin. That said, it’ll find room for Wonder Man regardless, as a Disney+ show centered on the classic Avengers character is arriving soon, presumably in Phase 5 or Phase 6 where he’ll be brought to life by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
5 Moondragon
The daughter of Drax the Destroyer, Moondragon was a polarizing presence among the group. Similar to Doctor Druid, she used her psychic abilities to influence her teammates, which unsurprisingly ended in an unceremonious end to her Avengers hip. Since then, though, Marvel has portrayed her in a much more positive light, making her a trusted member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies avoided her when fleshing out Drax’s backstory, but even without that connection, Moondragon could still work in the MCU, possibly as a future member of Rocket Raccoon’s new team.
4 Quasar
The chosen champion of the cosmic being known as Eon, Quasar is a former SHIELD agent whose life took an unexpected turn when he became the caretaker of the Quantum Bands. Becoming a cosmic superhero in the same vein as Nova, Wendell Vaughn ed Captain America’s new Avengers team in 1989. But unlike Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman who left only shortly after ing, Quasar stuck around for a while to serve as a meaningful addition to the team. Since a statue in Thor: Love and Thunder confirmed Eon’s existence, it’s not impossible that the MCU’s Wendell Vaughn will one day be selected to become Quasar.
3 Rick Jones
Best ed as the teenager Bruce Banner saved during the accident that turned him into the Hulk, Rick Jones has been a sidekick to the Hulk, Captain America, and the original Captain Marvel. Due to a lack of any real powers or skills, Rick Jones never received full hip as an Avenger, but his contributions to the team earned him a much-deserved, honorary status. Even without powers, the honorary Avenger actively played roles in their missions and was even responsible for the formation of the team, as it was he who brought them together to fight Loki in the first place. Thus far, the MCU hasn’t needed Rick Jones, but could use him to unite the next team in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
2 Tigra
Greer Grant was introduced in 1972 as a costumed superhero called the Cat. When Patsy Walker acquired her suit and became her replacement, Marvel Comics reinvented Greer Grant as Tigra, a character who developed actual feline characteristics after a ritual performed by the Cat People. Tigra has been an Avenger since 1981, with the majority of her stories being with Hawkeye’s West Coast Avengers team. As for her chances of ing the MCU, on the surface, Tigra feels like a character who would be hard to fit into its universe, but the number of unusual races and concepts currently existing in the MCU makes her introduction seem more feasible than it once was.
1 Two-Gun Kid
Perhaps the most unlikely Avenger to the MCU, Two-Gun Kid is a gunslinger from the American Wild West. After crossing paths with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Two-Gun Kid became an official member, as well as a close friend to Hawkeye. Since was time travel and Kang the Conqueror who originally pulled Two-Gun Kid into the Avengers’ orbit in 1975, the possibility of a Western-era gunfighter showing up during the Multiverse Saga shouldn’t be ruled out. Similar to how the comic character was eventually apprehended by the TVA, Two-Gun Kid is a strong candidate for an appearance in Loki season 2.
