Yet, even with all of this being the case, it would have been awesome to see other relationships be formed between them and other people outside the group. There were characters who could have been intriguing to have as best friends. The same also could be said about potential enemies, as contrasting personalities certainly were seen amongst the students at Greendale.

The show certainly was full of strong relationships, but its writers could have focused on many more of them.

Best Friends: Pierce And Leonard

During their limited interactions together, Pierce and Leonard would get along quite well. They both were older gentlemen, who enjoyed inappropriate humor, as they often engaged in it.

Creating a friendship between them would have been hilarious because of this. When seeing as how Pierce often found himself being the odd man out of the group, it would have been nice for him to have a friend to who he could relate more often.

Rivals: Troy And Vaughn

Vaughn was a short-lived character in the series. He was actually somebody who Troy should have disliked, due to jealousy. In the first season of the series, Troy was focused primarily on his reputation and popularity.

Vaughn was having a lot of success with dating, while also having the attention of the entire campus. Seeing these two as rivals over this could have provided some hilarious content to the series, even if it was just for the opening season.

Best Friends: Chang And Professor Duncan

As two outsiders of the group, it was surprising that Chang and Professor Duncan did not become best friends. Yes, they did have a short-lived rivalry between one another. However, seeing as how Chang was able to repair his damaged relationship with the group, it would have been possible for him to repair his relationship with Duncan too.

The two definitely were funny characters. Not only did they provide some much-needed relief from the study group when the drama was too much but fans also loved seeing their eccentric personalities unfold too. This pairing could have been fantastic to follow for the series.

Rivals: Abed And Vice Dean Laybourne

Vice Dean Laybourne had already caused a lot of issues for Troy in the series. Thus, it would have been great to see Abed possess a strong disliking to him, as Troy was his best friend in the series.

Abed had a very different personality than the vice dean, which also could have helped fuel a potential feud between these two. It would have been a fun little component for the series, as Abed did not seem to have too many conflicts with people outside of the group.

Best Friends: Jeff And Dean Pelton

Jeff may have been cold to the dean on numerous occasions, but the two did have the tools to become best friends. They spent a lot of time with one another and even had a wonderful time whilst performing karaoke together.

It would have been nice to see Jeff warm up much more to him, especially since the viewers could see that he did care for him a lot. Also, Jeff seemed to not have somebody in the group who he was closest with on a friendship level.

Rivals: Chang And Garrett

Seeing a rivalry between Chang and Garrett would have been absolutely hysterical for the series. Chang certainly had a temper, but Garrett may have had an even worse one. This was especially the case when it came to his wedding episode.

These two characters also were easily among the funniest in the series, so seeing them battle against one another would have been wonderful. It could have created some rather spicy storylines as well.

Best Friends: Britta And Shirley

Britta and Shirley could have been a good pair as best friends. Sure, they did possess vastly different viewpoints on certain things, but they also had many heart-to-hearts in earlier seasons. Their friendship seemed to be strong, but it also fizzled out a tad later on.

It seemed as though these two were slowly becoming best friends, but it just did not come to fruition after the drastic change in Britta's character. It's a shame, as Shirley was another person in the group who seemed to be left out.

Rivals: Pierce And Vicki

Pierce was absolutely ruthless during the school's presidential debate, as he kept roasting Vicki as revenge. Sadly, after this occurred, their rivalry was not explored anymore, which was actually pretty disappointing.

It would have been nice to see Vicki get Pierce back for being such a jerk to her. Pierce definitely was the aggressor in this situation and rightfully deserved it. Also, as the show would display, anytime Pierce was angry, it would provide some of the best comedy.

Best Friends: Annie And Rachel

It's a shame that Rachel was a short-lived character in the series, as she was perfect for Abed. Yet, even with this being the case, it would have been great to see Annie and her be good friends as they did seem to possess similar qualities.

When Annie moved into Troy and Abed's apartment, she started to take an interest in television and movies far more, just like Rachel. Given the fact that they were also both smart, they did seem to have a lot in common for a strong friendship.

Rivals: Jeff And Buddy

The prime reason why a Jeff and Buddy rivalry would have been awesome was that it would have had Jack Black be a recurring character in the series. This could have been fantastic, as the two would have been nothing short of hilarious in this type of dynamic.

Buddy also rubbed the group the wrong way, which definitely could have helped fuel this a bit more. Jeff definitely was not afraid to express his dissatisfaction with people too, so a potential rivalry between them was not a farfetched idea.
