Cyberpunk 2077's Switch 2 version has just launched, bringing new players to the game.

Content wasn't ever Cyberpunk's issue. Those who could run the game on launch praised its story and dense open world. While subsequent updates brought new content – particularly the revamp of 2.0 – Cyberpunk 2077 has remained largely stagnant outside Phantom Liberty. New quality-of-life features abound, and the ancillary addition of things like vehicle combat is more than welcome, but Night City tends to slow down if you've put significant time into the game. It's completely fine for a developer to deliver a set amount of content, but since Cyberpunk 2077 is still being updated, I'm hoping Patch 2.3 can make some crucial changes for longtime players.

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.3 Is Coming, But It Probably Won’t Be Huge

CDPR Has Largely Moved On

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.3 was confirmed by a tweet from CD Projekt Red global community director Marcin Momot. More info is coming later in June, and details remain practically nonexistent, but it's hard to believe 2.3 will be anything other than minor, at least relative to the likes of 2.0. The team at CDPR still working on Cyberpunk 2077 is greatly diminished, and that shows in the last update. 2.2's marquee feature was a greater presence of Johnny Silverhand, who will now ride shotgun while driving.

CDPR has largely moved onto The Witcher 4, which recently caused a lot of buzz with its Cyberpunk sequel may move away from Night City.

More Gigs, ND Events, & Randomized Content Would Be Perfect

2.3 Can Future-Proof Cyberpunk 2077

Four heavily armed police officers, of the elite group MaxTac, descending from a flying transport onto a highway. In the background is a billboard that reads "Welcome to Pacifica" in neon letters along with a photo of Night City's skyline in the Pacifica area.

It's a tall order, but new Gigs, ND Scanner Hustles, and more randomly generated content in general would be great to see in Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.3. Gigs are effectively Cyberpunk's smallest quest type, and ND activities are similarly brief, usually requiring a single objective to be completed. NPCs are always wandering around Night City, but the game is noticeably less lively after you complete all the Gigs.

ND Scanner Hustles similarly grow stale. There are only a handful of different types, and while they operate as Night City's serendipitous content, they too become repetitive, even if you encounter them all over the map. Previous updates have piled new things and improvements on top of the core Cyberpunk 2077 experience, but only Phantom Liberty has brought new Gigs.

5 Years Later, Cyberpunk Needs More Infinite Playability

Build Variety Can Only Go So Far

Cyberpunk 2077 is already a game that has a decent amount of replayability. There are different builds to utilize, characters to romance, and endings to achieve, but every playthrough eventually runs out of steam. There's a lot of fun to be had just driving around Night City and seeing what kind of events pop up, but five years later, none of the updates have really built on this part of the experience.

Anything to spice up the long-term playability of Cyberpunk 2077 would be a huge bonus to the game. Especially now that there's a dedicated portable version on the Switch 2, it would be nice to be able to jump in and get up to some unexpected shenanigans before you have to put the game on hold. Since the team still working on Cyberpunk 2077 is so small, though, I won't get my hopes up – anything this far from release is just a cherry on top.
