Deadpool 3 finally gets an update as a new report seemingly reveals a starting date for the film's production. The next installment of Ryan Reynolds' beloved franchise will see the eponymous mutant transported to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Disney's purchase of 20th Century Fox in 2019. He will be ed by Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, marking the first time that the Australian actor has portrayed the character since 2017's Logan, and Owen Wilson's Agent Mobius. While plot details regarding the film have been characteristically sparse, new information regarding the sequel continues to leak as it rapidly approaches the beginning of filming.
Just weeks after news broke of Emma Corrin's casting in Deadpool 3, a new report from the Film & Television Industry Alliance included a production list for the movie, which marked May 1, 2023 as the planned shoot date. The production list goes on to cite a synopsis for the film:
"Another chapter in the raunchy, violent, and of course, hilarious Deadpool series."
Deadpool 3 seems poised to enter production this coming May, suggesting it may make its planned release date of November 8th, 2024 amidst various delays in other MCU projects. The sequel is just one of several MCU projects preparing to begin filming in the next few months, with Captain America: New World Order, Marvel's Thunderbolts, and Blade all set to begin filming in the first half of 2023.
Deadpool 3 Is The Perfect Start To Phase 6
Deadpool 3 kicks off Phase 6 of the MCU, coming on the heels of Thunderbolts and Blade, which is still classified as Phase 5 despite numerous delays. The film, which will be the first R-rated project in the MCU, is expected to have a major impact on the franchise's ongoing Multiverse Saga storyline, especially following the news that Owen Wilson's character from Loki would be appearing. It would seem that Deadpool and Wolverine's presence on Earth-616 is catastrophic enough to warrant the attention of the Time Variance Authority.
May films and series within Phase 4 and Phase 5 have shown the multiverse gradually tearing apart, and Phase 6 appears to be no different. Whereas titles like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have all shown the prospect of other universes, variants, and incursions, Deadpool 3 can show the multiverse truly brought to its knees as certain characters from Fox's X-Men universe, including Wade Wilson himself, find themselves transplanted in an alternate reality permanently.
The events of Deadpool 3 are poised to create a massive incursion in the MCU's multiverse, foreshadowing the destructive events of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. As such, the film is the perfect way to debut the third act of the Multiverse Saga, as the very fabric of reality tears apart. Furthermore, to have a chaotic yet lovable trickster like Deadpool at the very heart of this cataclysm seems all too appropriate. Although it won't do any favors to the X-Men's convoluted timeline, Deadpool 3 may be integral to that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
