A new trailer for Digimon Cyber Sleuth games for the PlayStation 4. These, along with the franchise's many anime and manga adaptations, have helped Digimon retain a small fanbase on both sides of the Pacific.
The latest in this line of Digimon games is Digimon Survive, a survival strategy RPG that promises to be much different from what has come before. Digimon Survive puts players in the role of a group of Japanese teenagers who find themselves mysteriously transported to a strange alternate world filled with monsters in the tradition of stories like Digimon Adventure. However, Digimon Survive will have a darker plot, as this small band of survivors will be faced with making difficult choices in order to live long enough to see one of the game’s multiple endings. Additionally, Digimon Survive will feature isometric turn-based combat like the recent Triangle Strategy, with each character commanding their own partner Digimon to fend off enemies.
Earlier today, fans got a chance to take a closer look at these characters thanks to a new Digimon Survive trailer that was posted to the official players “Digivolving” their partner Digimon into larger and stronger forms - as shown when Agumon transforms into Greymon, a massive dinosaur with powerful fire-based attacks.
Digimon Survive was first announced by Bandai Namco and original developer Witchcraft back in 2018, but information on the title has grown quiet in the few years since. The game was originally set to release in the fall of 2020, but it was soon delayed until the following year after producer Kazumasa Habu revealed that Digimon Survive’s gameplay system was being reviewed and redone from scratch - eventually resulting in development duties switching over to Hyde. Digimon Survive would see two more delays over the next couple of years, the most recent of which was a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The latest Digimon Survive trailer does a good job of establishing the game’s more serious tone and showing off the many different characters players will be introduced to - as well as the Japanese voice actors who play them. If all goes according to plan, Digimon fans will finally get the chance to step back into the Digital World when Digimon Survive launches in 2022.
