If you have noticed a red small square at the top-left of your screen in Elden Ring, it means you have an active Status Effect. This icon is right underneath the Stamina Bar and doesn't really have a specific name for this debuff like "Blight or Madness." However, you will need to get rid of it as it results in 5% less maximum HP.
If you aren't sure how you got the Red Square debuff, it happens when you first encounter Fia. After a brief conversation with her, you will have a choice to hug her or not. If you hugged her, this innocent act would result in your character kneeling down to allow Fia to hold you in her arms. As she presses your head to her chest, your HP bar will deplete slightly. Nevertheless, once you have the debuff, it is important to get rid of it before you face your next boss in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring: Who Fia, Deathbed Companion, Really Is
Elden Ring's Deathbed Companion Fia reveals herself to be one of the most important characters in the Lands Between as the mother of the undead.
How To Get Rid Of The Red Square HP Debuff In Elden Ring
Use a Specific Consumable Item
If you're wondering why this debuff exists in the first place, the answer lies within the gift Fia bestows on you after her embrace, i.e., Elden Ring that will let you remove the Red Square Debuff. But there's more to it than meets the eye.
Once you consume Baldachin's Blessing, it will remove the Red Square Debuff and get a buff that increases one of the Elden Ring. Consuming the Baldachin's Blessing will temporarily boost your Poise, meaning you will be able to resist being staggered by enemies more.
Having a high level of Poise allows players to be more resistant to being stunned or their attacks being interrupted.
Therefore, hugging Fia grants you the ability to invoke several seconds of higher Poise while sacrificing a minute yet significant portion of your health. Even 5% HP can make a huge difference in surviving a fatal blow; thus, you must ensure you understand what you are giving up in exchange for the Baldachin's Blessing.
On the other hand, players can accept Fia's embrace for free emotional and immediately use the restorative blessing afterward. After all, Elden Ring shows no mercy to Tarnished players.
