Telltale Games announced an title based on the sci-fi series The Expanse almost a year ago, but it revealed relatively little about the project. Luckily, a new trailer premiered at Gamescon 2022, and it tells fans a bit more about what to expect - but not much. Hopefully, more information about how the prequel game ties into the series will be revealed soon, but in the meantime, here is every character from The Expanse that appeared in Telltale's trailers.
The Expanse is a grounded sci-fi drama based on a series of novels of the same name. It takes place in a somewhat distant future in which humanity has colonized much of the solar system, leading to a new set of political factions consisting of planetary governments. The series revolves around a small crew of ex-cargo transporters who must uncover a vast scientific conspiracy while navigating political turmoil. However, Telltale Games' newest story appears to be a prequel set years before the events of the show's first season.
Telltale's The Expanse follows known character Camina Drummer as she leads a crew of scavengers in stealing resources from destroyed ships. Telltale is known for creating decision-based, story-centric titles, and this project will likely resemble their previous works. The game takes place aboard the newly introduced spaceship The Artemis, which is presumably aligned with the OPA, a network of small factions representing the ill-treated citizens of the asteroid belt. Little is known about the story at this point, but both the old and new trailers reveal that the player will have to contend with a violent mutiny aboard the ship.
Camina Drummer
A tough, efficient member of the OPA, Drummer often allies herself with The Expanse's protagonists. Though she starts the Expanse television show as second-in-command to Fred Johnson, the most strategic and refined OPA leader, the game will take place early in her career, when she worked for violent revolutionary Anderson Dawes. Drummer shows immense promise as a protagonist: though she rarely hesitates in doing what's necessary, she has been known to care deeply for her crew, and she constantly questions her loyalties. Cara Gee, who portrays Drummer on the show, revealed at The Game Awards that the game will explore her "more vulnerable sides," which will be fascinating to witness given how jaded the character is at the start of the series. The game may even cover Drummer's decision to switch OPA factions.
Anderson Dawes
After The Expanse ended, and before Telltale's belter story, learning more about the mysterious Anderson Dawes seemed impossible, but he is explicitly mentioned in the first trailer. Dawes is the leader of the OPA faction situated at Ceres Station, and unlike his rival/ally Fred Johnson, Dawes is a dangerous mixture of charismatic and ruthless. Despite constantly crossing the line between community leader and crime lord, Dawes is one of the most important political figures in The Expanse's universe, and he recruited many of the most famous of the OPA, including Drummer.
Considering that Drummer is leading one of Dawes' scavenger ships, he likely won't make many in-person appearances, but he will function as the player's employer. This hopefully means the player will be able to communicate with him throughout the game, and he may even help guide the player's decisions. The Expanse finale ended Drummer's story but rarely discussed her origins with Dawes, so Telltale will hopefully give players a sense of their dynamic.
