Final Fantasy 16 won't launch until next year, but the developers have an idea of how long it will take to 100% complete. The Final Fantasy series mostly consists of lengthy single-player experiences, as well as some MMOs that offer countless hours of content, with more being added every year. It's rare to find a short Final Fantasy game, with even the original game from 1987 taking just under 20 hours to finish.

FF16 will release in Summer 2023 and the developers have been public about how confident they are about that release window. In a recent interview with EveryEye (translated by aitakimochi on Twitter), FF16 Director Hiroshi Takai revealed that the game will take around 35-40 hours to finish, and nearly double that for completionists, as finishing 100% of the optional content will take over 70 hours. This means Final Fantasy 16 is going to be a lengthy experience, especially for those who wish to complete all of its content.

The estimated length of FF16 puts it in line with the other entries in the series, which last around 30 hours each, going in either direction based on the skill of the player. It puts Final Fantasy 16 around FF7 Remake's 35+ hour runtime, though it's unclear how much of this is cutscenes, something that the Final Fantasy series has become known for. It's clear from the trailers that FF16 will be a story-heavy game, which will translate into lots of spoken dialogue.

It's surprising to learn about how much optional content there is in FF16. The trailers for the game have stuck to the main story beats and even those have been vague about certain characters and concepts. It's unclear whether FF16 will have minigames, especially considering the dark tone of the game, and the extra runtime for completionists could just be side missions and monster hunts. Regardless, it will take over 70 hours to 100% complete Final Fantasy 16.

The developers have stated that FF16's release date will be revealed in 2022, and if it's hitting that Summer 2023 release window, then Square Enix will start revving up the publicity machine for the game very soon. Once that happens, more information will be revealed about the story and gameplay of FF16, giving fans a clearer view of what will make up that bulky runtime. Final Fantasy 16 is set to match some of its esteemed predecessors in of length, but it remains to be seen whether it can match them in quality.
