From season 3's story begins, as they have endured countless tragedies at the hands of the monsters and other sinister forces that prevent them from escaping the town.
While speaking with Radio Times, Saunders hinted at the new dangers that Donna and the other characters will face as the series' supernatural world becomes more interconnected than ever before. Despite the monsters and the town itself becoming more dangerous, Saunders also emphasized the genuine bonds between the characters, and how these bonds will help them in season 3. She praised how the creators put the need for human connection at the forefront of the horror series. Check out Saunders' comments below:
People are put in danger, for sure. Things are getting dicey and tight and the monsters – there's different aspects and kinds of monsters and dangers that are coming.
The world has more connections to other places, both internal and external, than we have known before – what journeys within and what journeys without, how does the world enter in...? I'm not explaining it very well, because I don't want to give it away! But there's multiple levels of it, and they twist and turn in. It's nothing simple – it only gets more complex.
What I love about this show is love – there's a lot, actually, a lot of places of love in the show amongst characters.
And I think John [Griffin] and Jeff [Pinkner] have brought that discussion into it – different kinds of love. Lost love, found love, love that's not working, and how that helps us as humans survive, and how it breaks us when we don't have connections.
From's Monsters Are Only The Tip Of The Iceberg
There Are Even More Sinister Forces At Work
The flesh-eating monsters that take on a human form and emerge every night are terrifying and have claimed the lives of many From characters. As formidable as they are, they do not seem to be the greatest danger in the town. The mystical forces that trapped Donna and everyone else in the town and that prevent them from leaving are the bigger danger, with the monsters potentially just being a security system to keep the townspeople distracted.
In season 2, something more sinister than the monsters caused Boyd Stevens and several others to see disturbing hallucinations with lethal potential, along with taking on the form of Boyd's deceased wife, Abby.
Something more powerful than the monsters convinced Sara Myers (Avery Konrad) to try and kill Ethan Matthews (Simon Webster) in season 1 and etched the message into her arm. In season 2, something more sinister than the monsters caused Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) and several others to see disturbing hallucinations with lethal potential, along with taking on the form of Boyd's deceased wife, Abby (Lisa Ryder). There is also the mysterious Boy in White (Vox Smith) who pushed Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Morteno) out of the lighthouse, and whose motivations remain unclear.
The newer monsters that Saunders teases may be necessary after Boyd figured out how to kill one of them in season 2. The more powerful forces may need the new monsters to subdue the townspeople following their recent victories. Despite the emergence of new threats, From season 3 needs to start moving closer to unveiling the dark truth behind the story's many tantalizing mysteries, providing answers to some of the questions that have been posed.
