The return of From’s cast and characters find themselves trapped in a terrifying town that’s impossible to escape, with unknown homicidal monsters roaming the streets and forest at night. The acclaimed horror show packs as many shocking mysteries as Lost, chief among them being the location where they’re trapped, the dangerous creatures hunting them, and why they’re there.

While teased the mysteries in From season 3’s story, she hinted at some new “kinds of monsters and dangers that are coming.” The actress elaborated that the world these characters are trapped in has “more connections to other places, both internal and external, than we have known before.” While these new monsters don’t bode well for From’s characters, their introduction is good news for uncovering the old creatures’ secrets.

From's New Monsters Suggest The Show Will Finally Reveal What The Original Creatures Are

Will From Solve The Old Monster Mystery Before Beginning A New One?

Character looks through the woods in From

If there are new monsters being introduced, then there’s a good chance that From season 3 will reveal what exactly the original creatures are and explain their purpose. The creatures’ nature has been as much of a mystery to the town’s residents as it has been to viewers, with the dissection of the dead monster’s body in From season 2 leading to even more questions than it answered. While there are numerous theories explaining From’s monsters, where they come from, and what they want with the residents, MGM+’s horror show hasn’t given any firm answers quite yet.

It’s unlikely that the show would dive deeper into a new species of monsters or threat to the characters until the original creatures were better understood.

However, the idea that new monsters will be roaming the town in From season 2’s cliffhanger ending set up some big twists after Tabitha went to the lighthouse, her journey outside the town may be what leads to the characters getting the clarification they’ve been seeking.

Of course, it’s possible that From’s original monsters will be a mystery that doesn’t get a satisfying explanation until toward the end of the series. For instance, it wasn’t until the final season that Lost’s black smoke monster was finally given a full explanation, despite the fact that it was established as a threat in the pilot episode. The hope, however, is still that the origin of From’s smiling, timeless, terrifying nocturnal monsters is revealed relatively soon in the story, opening up the doors for more mysteries to take its place in the show’s future.

Aside from how frightening they are every time one of them appears on screen, From hasn’t given too much away about its nocturnal human-looking monsters. When one of them was killed and their body was opened up by the characters in From season 2, it was revealed that these creatures have the same internal organs as humans, but with dried and shriveled appearances. However, the body did contain bile, which may potentially be used as a weapon against the creatures.

Who Is From’s Boy In White & Is He Actually Helping The Town?

The curious Boy in White remains a mysterious spirit in From's town, with his appearances to various characters teasing his real role in the forest.

The exact purpose of From’s monsters is still unknown, but they enjoy killing and scaring their human victims. It seems that the monsters were either once human themselves or simply adapted themselves to take the form of human victims, though they curiously all don 1950s and 1960s-era outfits. The earliest known resident of the town in From is Victor, who has been trapped there since 1978. Consequently, the monsters’ origins may date back to 10–20 years before Victor’s original arrival given their appearances.

From season 3 premieres September 22, 2024 on MGM+.

While guns, knives, and similar weapons don’t work to kill the creatures, From revealed that they do have a mysterious weakness. Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) discovered that the Talismans in From work to repel the creatures, which not only makes them keep their distance, but also quiets their shrieking. The Talismans themselves are another one of From’s many mysteries, but their effect on the creatures suggests the objects may have played a role in the monsters’ origins.

Could From Season 3's New Monster Actually Be Human?

"Monster" May Have Another Meaning

Considering Saunders teased that there will be different “kinds” of monsters in From season 3, this could be hinting at human villains rather than more supernatural beings in the town. From has yet to introduce a major human antagonist working against the residents, and season 3 could reveal that a group from their own species has been behind their attacks and entrapment. Every human introduced in From so far has seemingly been someone who became trapped in the town, but season 3 could reveal that’s not entirely the case, with “monsters” secretly lurking among the residents.
