All four gals from Girls5eva are hilarious in their own way, and the humor comes out in full force in the Peacock original series' season 2 as they prepare to release their first new album under the Property Records label.
But the show isn't just about the titular girl group; Many ing characters, whether new to season 2 or old favorites from season 1, deliver plenty of laughs. And while nobody is funnier than the Girls5eva ladies rank at the top for funniest, it's really their dynamic as a group that makes comedy magic.
Lil Stinker
Lil Stinker isn't necessarily a main character on the show, but he is a driving force for Girls5eva reuniting in the first place and a character who returns in season 2. A hot new rap and R&B singer, Lil Stinker decides to sample Girls5eva's hit track from the '90s in his new song, leading to a resurgence in interest that catapults them back into the spotlight.
The ladies get to meet, work with, and even bump Lil Stinker from a big performance at Jingle Ball so they can steal the spotlight. He takes it all in stride, just happy to be having a good time. Each time the girl group runs into him, he is partly sweet for giving them their moment to shine and partly negligent when it comes to his own career. Nonetheless, he just keeps getting more and more famous. He may not be the show's funniest character, but his name alone never fails to bring the chuckles.
Dawn
Dawn is one of the best characters on Girls5eva, but she isn't as funny as her bandmates or even other ing characters. She's the sensible member of the group who tries to keep the ladies in check.
The only one with a seemingly together life, including a husband and son she loves and a stable job outside of music, Dawn still has her silly moments. One of the funniest was when she wrote a song that explained the hundreds of different meanings of the word "set" and then proceeded to try to use them all in the lyrics.
Scott
Dawn's husband Scott is hilarious, a working father who takes on much of the parenting responsibilities now that Dawn is trying to revive her career. He is a true partner, but his goofiness is what fans most love about him.
He always has funny chats with Wickie, but he is unable to understand the type of person she is. He does corny things like sing karaoke, exercise in silly outfits, and gloat about his favorite menswear. His argument with Dawn when she "cheated" on him by watching their favorite show's finale with her producer reflected his lighthearted style of humor.
Larry
A parody of the stereotypical '90s pop music producer who took advantage of clients and fans at the height of the genre, Larry is an extreme character. He effectively took all the money the Girls5eva earned, booked them for ridiculous gigs, and squeezed them for every dollar he could until he was on to the next big thing.
Decades later, they find Larry still working in the business and up to his same tricks. He even tried to sue the ladies for using an insulting phrase because he felt he owned the copyright to it. The veteran actor Jonathan Hadary who plays Larry has been in shows like shows the Girls5eva cast has been in.
Kev
Kev's entire backstory is hilarious, as he's a popular member of a '90s boy band who wore his hair swooshed in front of his one eye for so many years that he became cross-eyed. A total parody of a Christian pop singer, Kev met and fell in love with Summer from Girls5eva, and they made the perfect '90s pop music couple.
His general ignorance about basic things, like how to cook or sell houses (even though he decides to work as a realtor), and his unusual hobbies like collecting shells make Kev just as spacey and wacky as Summer. In theory, that makes them a wonderful match, even though one of the things that needed to happen in Girls5eva season 2 was for him and Summer to get divorced.
Summer
Summer represents every starry-eyed yet naive ingenue who found fame in a girl group. She isn't the best singer, and she doesn't write songs or even play an instrument. She is the one who says sexy words in the middle of the songs — an assessment she herself has made.
She vehemently denies getting plastic surgery even though it's obvious when she does. Summer has no idea how to parent her daughter Stevia and was marveled by her abilities when she was able to put together a salad. What makes Summer so funny is how self-aware she is about her skills and abilities — or lack thereof.
Gloria
It's no surprise that Gloria is one of the funniest characters given that she is played by Paula Pell, who is a comedian in real life. Having completely moved on from the girl group, Gloria went to school to become a dentist and had a successful career when the other three remaining ladies approached her to bring the group back.
Gloria always has snarky, sarcastic remarks and does funny things like kick her leg in the air to save a bad performance. In season 2, the scene when she was on pain medication and trying to do a live radio interview was a hilarious highlight.
Wickie
It's no surprise that one of the questions Girls5eva's season 2 had to answer was what would happen with Wickie. She has been the funniest character on Girls5eva since the first season. A former girl grouper with an overinflated sense of confidence, she is the one who tried to start a solo career after the band broke up. She even signed a "billion-year" contract to be a judge on a popular talent show, just to keep her career going.
She craves the spotlight and will do anything to stay in it, including staging her own photo ops and having an impromptu Star Search reunion performance with the comedian who beat her on the show decade prior. Things like having a Rolodex of various riffs and sounds that create a song and her general over-exaggeration of everything make Wickie the show's funniest character.
