The cast of Hawkeye boasts several new and returning Marvel characters from across the wider MCU. Following the conclusion of the MCU's Infinity Saga, Hawkeye takes place after Avengers: Endgame and continues Clint Barton's MCU story more than a year after his family returned from being dusted by Thanos. The series takes a street-level approach to Hawkeye's story and is heavily inspired by Matt Fraction and David Aja's beloved Hawkeye comic run. On top of showing Clint's evolution, Hawkeye also is responsible for introducing his MCU replacement, Kate Bishop — a notable archer in her own right.

Clint and Kate originally get wrapped up in a New York-set adventure after she acquires the Ronin suit, but they quickly realize that something bigger is going on. With six episodes in total, the amount of characters in Hawkeye's cast is quite large. The show primarily revolves around the MCU's most notable archer and his sharpshooter apprentice, but Clint Barton and Kate Bishop are just the tips of the iceberg, as the Hawkeye cast is full of talented actors playing popular Marvel characters.

Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye

Jeremy Renner in Hawkeye MCU series

Jeremy Renner returns as Clint Barton to lead the cast of Hawkeye. Renner made his MCU debut in 2011 thanks to a short cameo in Thor. This set up his return in The Avengers and the important role he'd play in the MCU overall. Renner's Hawkeye has appeared in five MCU movies so far, also starring in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America, and Avengers: Endgame. Hawkeye shows what's become of Clint after the latter film. This includes spending time with his wife and kids after helping bring them back from Thanos' snap, confronting demons from his time as Ronin, and training Kate Bishop to be a new superhero.

Renner's notable film credits include playing Sergeant First Class William James in The Hurt Locker and Jem Coughlin The Town — both of which he received Oscar nominations for. On the TV side, he also stars as Mike McClusky in the Paramount+ original series Mayor of Kingstown. Following his snowplow accident on New Year's Day of 2023, Renner has been undergoing physical rehabilitation, which seems to have had positive results. That said, Renner's process of recovery could sideline Hawkeye from the MCU for a while.

Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop

Hailee Steinfeld makes her MCU debut as Kate Bishop in Hawkeye, and the series is the start of Kate becoming a prominent character in the Marvel world. Kate is a highly skilled archer and fighter who has spent much of her young adult life honing these skills following the death of her father. She is also a huge fan of Hawkeye, just like in the comics, and becomes wrapped up in an adventure with Clint after acquiring the Ronin suit.

Steinfeld has earned high praise for her performance in Hawkeye and is expected to reprise the role of Kate Bishop in MCU projects, particularly rumored ones like the screen adaptation of Young Avengers. The actress' notable acting credits include her Oscar-nominated role as Mattie Ross in True Grit, Nadine Franklin in The Edge of Seventeen, Emily Dickinson in Apple TV+'s Dickinson, and Charlie Watson in Bumblebee.

Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop

Eleanor holds a wine glass in Hawkeye.

One of the new Marvel characters introduced in Hawkeye is Eleanor Bishop, played by Vera Farmiga. Eleanor is Kate's mother and a successful businesswoman who owns Bishop Security. Marvel's comics haven't given her much of a role in the past, as she supposedly died when Kate was still a child. It wasn't until much later on that Eleanor returned and was revealed to be involved in Madame Masque's schemes.

Farmiga was previously nominated for an Oscar for her performance as Alex Goran in Up in the Air, but she is best known for her roles in The Conjuring franchise as Lorraine Warren and Bates Motel as Norma Bates. Prior to Hawkeye, Farmiga also appeared in The Many Saints of Newark as Livia Soprano. A veteran actor among the cast of Hawkeye, Farmiga also played Dr. Anna Pou in Five Days at Memorial.

Hawkeye also features the MCU debut of Tony Dalton's Jack Duquesne, a.k.a. Swordsman. Jack is an expert sword fighter and is generally obsessed with them. He is Eleanor's fiancé and the CEO of Sloan LTD, which is a front for the Tracksuit Mafia. In the comics fans know Duquesne started as a villainous character, being a spy for the Mandarin, but he grew to be more heroic, even becoming an Avenger for some time.

Jack Duquesne/Swordsman was a mentor to Clint Barton in the hero's younger days, and he taught Clint how to master a bow with the help of Trickshot. Among the more recognizable faces in the cast of Hawkeye, Dalton is best known for playing Lalo Salamanca in Better Call Saul. The actor also plays the titular lead role in Sr. Ávila. Long-time viewers of Sens8 may recognize Dalton as Lito's Agent.

She isn't usually associated with Hawkeye in the comics, although Echo was the first one to wear the Ronin suit in the source material. In Hawkeye, Echo is the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia, and she has a vendetta against Ronin for killing her father. In the comics, Lopez was raised by Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, from a young age following her father's death. Lopez is also a character who is deaf, as is Cox.

Cox makes her acting debut in Hawkeye but is confirmed to return after for her spinoff Disney+ show Echo. Echo is set for release on November 29, 2023.

Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova

Yelena Belova eats mac and cheese from a pot in Hawkeye.

Following her MCU debut in Black Widow, Florence Pugh returned as Yelena Belova in Hawkeye episode 4, "Partners, Am I Right?" In the show, Yelena sports a brand-new look with an all-black suit that includes a mask with glowing green goggles, which is a direct match for her comic look when she was known as Super-Adaptoid. She also is equipped with her own set of Black Widow stingers, although hers glow red, as opposed like Natasha Romanoff's. In Hawkeye, Yelena is on a mission to kill Clint Barton thanks to her new assignment from Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine in Black Widow's post-credits scene.

Hawkeye is Pugh's second MCU appearance. She is most recognized for her roles as Dani Ardor in Midsommar, Paige Knight in Fighting With My Family, Alice Chambers in Don't Worry Darling. She was nominated for an Oscar for her performance as Amy March in Little Women. After featuring in the main cast of Hawkeye, Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova will be returning to the MCU in the cast of Thunderbolts.

Vincent D'Onofrio makes his MCU debut in the Hawkeye cast as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, a role he previously played in Netflix's Daredevil series. Kingpin's involvement was originally teased in Hawkeye episode 3, "Echoes", which makes multiple mentions of Echo's powerful "uncle". In a flashback to Maya's childhood, one of her father's colleagues greets her, but his face isn't shown. His laugh can also briefly be heard, which foreshadowed the D’Onofrio's actual appearance in Hawkeye episode 5, "Ronin", and Kingpin's cameo reveals that Kate’s mother is working with Kingpin.

Beyond Daredevil and Hawkeye, D'Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk in the cast of Daredevil: Born Again. Beyond his Kingpin experience, D'Onofrio's most famous TV role is Detective Robert Goren on Law and Order: Criminal Intent, a character the actor played for ten years. In film, D'Onofrio is known for playing Private Leonard "Pyle" Lawrence in Full Metal Jacket, Edgar/The Bug Men in Black, and Vic Hoskins in Jurassic World.
