Helldivers 2 has been on an impressively consistent schedule of new content since its release in early 2024, but the game has been without a significant patch for a little while, and the next expected Warbond has not even been revealed. The conflict with the Illuminate is ramping up in the Second Galactic War, and while the game itself appears to be in a bit of a lull, Arrowhead Game Studios has assured fans that there's more in the pipeline coming soon.

In a tweet from the official Helldivers 2 , Arrowhead has acknowledged the break in new content, and announced that the next Warbond will be revealed on May 8, 2025, with "more exciting news to come not long after." The post is accompanied by a photo of a Super Earth flag planted in a sand dune, and there's no hint as to what the Warbond theme is, nor what other updates are on the way. Arrowhead is playing it close to the vest, but the next major update will presumably take a big step in the Illuminate storyline, and either resolve or alter the course of the Meridian Singularity.

The Warbond announcement means it's likely to be released very soon; most Warbonds are announced then released within days. Each of the last two, February's Servants of Freedom and March's Borderline Justice, were revealed with a launch date two days later. The only thing complicating this potential timeline is that May 8 is a Thursday, which is when these last two Warbonds were released. It's possible that the Warbond is released on the weekend, or even the same day it's announced, but it's more likely to come the following week, on Monday, May 12 or later.

Without any hints from Arrowhead, it's tough to make any prediction about what the Warbond's theme will be. Borderline Justice was space western-themed, which had been a longtime request from many players. What's likely delaying the Warbond schedule is the promised fixes to Helldivers 2's performance on PC. New features for the Democracy Space Station have also been teased by Arrowhead, which could factor into the exciting news being promised.

The Second Galactic War Is Getting More Intense

The main storyline for Helldivers 2 in 2025 has been the Meridian Singularity, which is being controlled by the Illuminate on a path toward Super Earth. These latest few Warbonds have felt like this plot is reaching a climax – the Center of Science is working to activate the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator to stop the wormhole's advance. Many players assume that this storyline is leading to the Illuminate's full-scale assault, since up until now they've only featured a handful of enemy types.

The other fronts haven't been forgotten in 2025, though: the Terminids have produced the new Predator Strain variants, and the Automatons dispatched the Incineration Corps. Urban maps have been brought to all three fronts and several changes to the objectives pool have introduced more variety to the game over the last few months. Helldivers 2 may currently be in a bit of a lull, but there are a lot of promising threads, and the promise of a new Warbond and even more updates soon is enough to get excited about.
