Summary

  • Marvel Studios reviving a Heroes for Hire project could solve the disconnection between storylines in the Multiverse Saga.
  • The Heroes for Hire series could bring together a wider variety of street-level superheroes in the MCU.
  • The series could act as a replacement for canceled Marvel Television shows like Agents of SHIELD, and potentially bring in characters from other Marvel Television shows.

Marvel Studios reviving plans for Marvel Television's canceled Heroes for Hire project in the Defenders Saga has been integrated into the MCU's official timeline on Disney+, suggesting that they may actually be MCU canon.

Marvel Studios hinting at Marvel Television's Defenders Saga being canon to the MCU means that the street-level heroes featured in the Netflix shows could return in the MCU's future. Phase 5's Daredevil: Born Again is already putting this into practice, as several Defenders Saga characters will be returning, including Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, who has already made cameo appearances in the MCU's proper. However, this could also mean that Marvel Studios may revive plans for Defenders Saga shows that never got developed, including one that could tie together the disparate street-level stories of the MCU's Multiverse Saga.

Marvel Studios’ Heroes For Hire Revival Can Connect The MCU’s Street-Level Stories

Finn Jones and Mike Colter as Danny Rand's Iron Fist and Luke Cage in Marvel Television's Defenders Saga

Following the 2018 cancelations of Netflix's Luke Cage and Iron Fist series, many hoped that this could have created space for an adaptation of Marvel Comics' Heroes for Hire. In Marvel Comics' Power Man and Iron Fist #54 in 1978, the two titular heroes founded Heroes for Hire, a superhero private investigation agency. Mike Colter's Luke Cage and Finn Jones' Danny Rand's team-ups in Netflix's Defenders Saga spurred speculation that this storyline would be adapted for the franchise, but this never came to . However, in the MCU, a revived Heroes for Hire series could serve a much greater purpose.

One of the biggest complaints of the MCU's Multiverse Saga has been aimed at the disconnection between projects, as Marvel Studios has been exploring many different storylines all at once, with none of them really connecting. The development of a Heroes for Hire series would help to tie together the MCU's street-level characters and stories more clearly, while the more large-scale narrative of the Avengers and their battle against Kang the Conqueror continues to develop. While this could mark the returns of Luke Cage and Danny Rand's Iron Fist, Heroes for Hire in the MCU could feature more notable heroes.

Heroes For Hire Was Originally Planned For Netflix’s Defenders Saga, But Would Be Better In The MCU

While a Heroes for Hire series was heavily-rumored to be developed for Marvel Television's Netflix franchise, the series would actually benefit massively from now being produced for the much-larger MCU. This speculation has gained traction in recent weeks following the Defenders Saga's integration into the MCU's official timeline, and has even garnered from previous Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, who suggested that he could "write it in [his] sleep." Since there is so much interest in Heroes for Hire being developed for the MCU, it's very possible that Marvel Studios may put these canceled plans back in motion.

A new Heroes for Hire series could connect the loose threads of the MCU's street-level plots.

One of the biggest benefits of bringing Heroes for Hire into the MCU proper is that a wider variety of street-level superheroes would be available. Rather than simply featuring Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and potentially Daredevil and Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, a new Heroes for Hire series could connect the loose threads of the MCU's street-level plots. This could continue the stories of heroes such as Spider-Man, Echo, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Hawkeye, and perhaps even Sam Wilson's new Captain America. This would bring more interconnectivity to the MCU, and create a series with a huge amount of star power.

MCU’s Heroes For Hire Is The Perfect Replacement For Canceled Marvel Shows

Developing a Heroes for Hire series for the MCU would not only allow Netflix's Defenders Saga to continue after being canceled, but this could also act as the perfect replacement for Marvel Television's other canceled series. Most notably, Agents of SHIELD, which ran for seven seasons between 2013 and 2020, was a very popular series that many were disappointed to see canceled. Agents of SHIELD's case-of-the-week format would be perfect for a Heroes for Hire series, allowing the new street-level superhero team to grow and develop over a longer season, perhaps closer to Agents of SHIELD's 22-episode initial seasons.

Heroes for Hire could even help bring the likes of Cloak and Dagger and the Runaways into the MCU proper from their previous Marvel Television shows. While it's unlikely that characters from Agents of SHIELD would be brought back for a potential Heroes for Hire series, the structure and style of the popular Marvel Television series would be advantageous to Heroes for Hire's revival. By replacing these other canceled shows and tying together the disparate storylines of the Multiverse Saga's street-level heroes, Marvel Studios' potential Heroes for Hire series could stand out as one of the MCU's most popular additions.
