Summary

  • The Highlander reboot script development is "extraordinary" according to Henry Cavill, who will star in the film.
  • Cavill is a big fan of the Highlander franchise, especially the "lore" in the TV series.
  • While very little information has been revealed by way of the plot or cast for Highlander, the film will be directed by Chad Stahelski.

Actor Henry Cavill teases details of the Highlander reboot directed by Chad Stahelski. Highlander was originally a 1986 movie about a Scottish swordsman who must confront immortal enemies. Directed by Russell Mulcahy, the film starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart.

Speaking with Highlander film. The actor comes from a background of being a “Highlander fan” who appreciated both the original film and the TV show with all of the “lore behind it.”

He believes that the “development of the script” of the Highlander reboot film is “extraordinary.” Check out the full quote from Cavill below:

I’m gonna have to answer that very carefully. I was a Highlander fan. They were great fun movies. Obviously, I watched them when I was a lot younger, and since rewatched. But also the TV show. I really enjoyed the lore behind it. That sort of sense of a tragic warrior, with more of a story to tell than just a cool guy with a cool sword doing cool things. And this goes even deeper into that.

I can’t speak to [how much the Highlander film goes into the TV show] at the moment. What they’ve done so far and what we’re doing with the development of the script is extraordinary. I think people are gonna be really, really pleased.

Big swings are important. You play it safe and you go ‘eh, I guess it was fine.’ But you take a big swing, and people love it. Or they hate it, and sometimes hating it is just as good.

What To Expect from the Highlander Reboot

In the interview, Horowitz suggested that Stahelski’s Highlander might take on some of the aspects of the TV show. While Cavill did not confirm or deny this fact, the actor’s reverence for the TV show points in the direction of Highlander tackling at least some of the themes of the TV show. Between the original film, the 1992–1998 TV series, and various spinoffs, the Highlander franchise has copious sources of content to draw from for its reboot.

Henry Cavill is done fighting as Geralt in The Witcher, but recent news about Highlander proves the excitement will only get better from here.

Very little has been revealed surrounding Cavill’s version of Highlander. Cavill is the only confirmed cast member, and there has been nothing revealed as to the film’s plot other than the basic fight between immortal warriors. Highlander is directed by Stahelski and will be written by Ryan J. Condal, Michael Finch, and Kerry Williamson.

The Highlander TV show starred Adrian Paul and ran for over 100 episodes, spanning 6 seasons.

Even in the absence of concrete updates, Cavill’s high praise of the film seems promising for Highlander. Stahelski is the seasoned director behind the John Wick franchise, so he has experience working on action-packed films. Combined with action film veteran and Highlander fan Cavill, the Highlander reboot is well-positioned to succeed as it continues to develop its script and soon enter production.
