Screen Rant was in attendance at D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where many major announcements were made at the Pixar . This includes their spinoff series Dream Productions, which is set in the titular production studio where Riley's dreams are created. The show, which they have been working on for three to four years, is set to take place between the events of Inside Out and Inside Out 2.

Although it is still unknown exactly which of the Inside Out cast will be returning for Dream Productions, it seems imperative that Riley be front and center in the show, even if the core emotions from the movies are not on hand. While her life between the events of the two movies has not been explored deeply, there are some key moments that have been revealed that are likely to have major play in the storyline of the spinoff, presumably as her dreams help her process her life.

While two years ed between the main events of the first two movies, the Inside Out ending featured an epilogue a year later that followed Riley at 12 years old, beginning to make friends and returning to her love of hockey. The beginning of the sequel sees her having fully embraced hockey and looking to a team in high school alongside her best friends Bree (Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green) and Grace (Grace Lu), who she seems to have met after the events of the epilogue. Because of this, those two characters will likely be central figures in the spinoff show.

The main Riley storyline of Inside Out 2 saw Riley struggling with her feelings about Bree and Grace going to a different high school and her anxiety about being separated from them.

Although Dream Productions will likely explore a variety of topics, the overarching themes of Riley's life thus far seem to be friendship and hockey, so those will likely be explored further, at whatever stage the show picks up with her on as she progresses from age 11 to 13.
