Summary

  • Invincible season 2, part 2's trailer teases a potential crossover with The Walking Dead universe, featuring a brief scene in a zombie universe.
  • Angstrom Levy's presence in part 2 suggests that Invincible's multiverse will play a significant role, allowing for exploration of different dimensions.
  • While a crossover with The Walking Dead could be a fun nod to creator Robert Kirkman, the zombie universe may just be an Easter Egg rather than a major storyline in season 2.

Part 1 of Invincible season 2 ended with a battle just as brutal as season 1's shocking fight and set up a pretty open story for the show's return. With Angstrom Levy seemingly having a big role in part 2, so will Invincible's multiverse.

This creates the opportunity to explore even more dimensions, and the trailer offers a slight tease about what's to come. While there is a lot of focus on the Guardians of the Globe, Mark's struggles, and new enemies, Angstrom Levy's presence is felt heavy and should give him the spotlight he looked like he would have all season. His ability to travel the multiverse has already revealed some interesting locations, and the zombie universe looks familiar. Given Robert Kirkman wrote both the Invincible and The Walking Dead comics, it seems possible that the shows could crossover in Invincible season 2.

Invincible season 2, part 2 is scheduled to return to Amazon Prime Video on March 14, 2024.

Invincible Season 2, Part 2's Trailer Contains A Zombie Universe

Angstrom Levy in a zombie universe in Invincible

There was a lot to unpack in Invincible season 2, part 2's trailer, but a zombie universe is perhaps the last thing audiences were expecting. With the trailer introducing so many new threats, Invincible's zombie universe may not be the biggest concern to Mark Grayson, but if it works the same way The Walking Dead's universe does, one bite could kill the protagonist. Given Angstrom Levy seems hellbent on killing every version of Invincible, a zombie apocalypse wouldn't be the worst option. Levy seems to have intentionally visited this universe, meaning it may be part of his plan.

Although exploring a Walking Dead crossover could be fun, the zombies may simply be an Easter Egg. With Robert Kirkman being heavily involved in both shows, it would be a fun nod to his most popular franchise. The dimension only features briefly in the trailer, so it's hard to tell how much significance it will have in season 2. However, it does open up some fun opportunities, such as a one-off special in this world. Zombies may be far less threatening in Invincible compared to The Walking Dead, but this universe is still an interesting reveal.

How An Invincible & Walking Dead Crossover Could Work

Despite their obvious differences, a Walking Dead and Invincible crossover could work. There are plenty of Walking Dead actors in Amazon's Invincible, meaning there is already lots to work with. Given Invincible loves using gags even during its serious moments, the show could easily utilize this. If Mark finds himself in The Walking Dead universe, he could come across Glenn and play on the fact they sound the same, since Steven Yeun plays both characters. The overlapping cast creates plenty of opportunities to include these sorts of jokes, but there is more crossover potential beyond a few gags.

Mark and some of Invincible's other heroes having to fend off a zombie horde in The Walking Dead universe would make for some compelling action. The crossover could also allow The Walking Dead's zombies to be transported to Earth, causing the apocalypse to come to Mark's home. While most of the show's heroes would be able to easily kill the zombies, the infection would be fatal to civilians if not dealt with right away. It may seem like a bizarre crossover, but The Walking Dead's zombie apocalypse could be used in creative ways to invoke humor, action, or complete devastation.

Are Zombies In The Invincible Comic Books?

Martians and Sequids from Invincible

Zombies aren't a central part of Invincible's comics, but the undead do make a brief appearance. Mark appears in a zombie universe in one of Invincible's comics during a fight with Angstrom Levy. Unlike The Walking Dead, the zombies are able to form words, making Mark's run in with them all the more creepy. There is also D.A. Sinclair's own version of zombies, reanimating humans into an almost zombie-like state. These aren't traditional zombies though, instead being a product of science and resembling robots. However, Mark does fight one Reanimen that heavily references Robert Kirkman's big franchise.

Invincible's The Walking Dread is a direct reference to The Walking Dead, with the name being anything but subtle. Mark's run in with The Walking Dread shows that there is some zombie presence in the comics, even if that presence is limited. While the comic books aren't littered with zombie appearances, there are some small cameos, perhaps serving as acknowldgement of Kirkman's other work as opposed to actually progressing the story. Still, zombies do seem to be showing up in Invincible season 2, part 2, and there is still the possibility for a proper Walking Dead crossover.

Invincible Season 3 Poster

Based on the comic book character by Robert Kirkman, Invincible follows Mark Grayson,  a seventeen-year-old who leads a seemingly average life save for the fact that he lives behind the shadow of his superhero father, Omni-Man. Mark goes on to develop superhuman abilities, but he must also learn that his father's legacy isn't as glitzy and glamorous as he's been led to believe.
