Now, via Empire, an image from Jurassic World Rebirth has revealed a new look at Scarlett Johansson's character, Zora Bennett. The image shows her wading through some tall grass on the island wielding a tranquilizer gun used to subdue dinosaurs. Check out the new image below:

Director Gareth Edwards Teases Scarlett Johansson's Character

The new image was released as part of Empire's 2025 Preview, for which director Gareth Edwards also teased a return to the style of Steven Spielberg's original classic. He says "it goes back to what I loved about the original with an embarrassment of riches of different set-piece-type scenarios and tense, fun action moments. There were a lot of opportunities as a filmmaker to have a lot of fun and try and play games with the audience." It continues the concept of dinosaurs living in the wild, while also beginning "a whole new chapter in the timeline of Jurassic."

While there will be plenty of dinosaurs, Edwards also teased the new human protagonist, Scarlett Johansson's Zora Bennett, who leads a team on a high-stakes mission to collect genetic material from the world's three most massive dinosaurs. Edwards says "She’s looking for meaning in her life after leaving the military and this opportunity comes along where [after it] basically she’d never have to work again. But through that journey, she starts to question the ethical rights and wrongs of what they’re doing." This should continue the franchise's exploration of the ethics of cloning and genetic engineering.

Zora Bennett Is Carrying The Franchise Forward

With director Gareth Edwards teasing a return to the style of Steven Spielberg's original classic, this appears to extend to Scarlett Johansson's character, Zora Bennett. The morally complex human protagonist harkens back to some of the franchise's best, such as Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), who won't be appearing. In Jurassic World Rebirth, Zora Bennett seems poised to carry the franchise forward while also harkening back to its past.

Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled for release on July 2, 2025.
