The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now preparing for two new massive events in all the Infinity Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet in order to fulfill his mission of getting rid of half of life in the universe with the snap of his fingers, and through that, bring balance to the universe.

The MCU is now moving forward and away from Thanos and the Infinity Stones with phases 4, 5, and 6, now known as the Multiverse Saga, which will see two crossover events in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, confirming that the big villain in this new era in the MCU is Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). The MCU’s Phase 4 began its exploration of the multiverse in the TV series Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania before jumping to the next Avengers movies.

Of course, there are already different theories on how the MCU will lead to the events of The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, and one of them links the events of Avengers: Endgame, the role of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) in the MCU, and Kang’s plans to the possible plot of The Kang Dynasty, explaining that the Time Heist and the survival of the Avengers and company were for the benefit of Kang.

Kang’s MCU History (So Far) Explained

In the comics, Kang, whose real name is Nathaniel Richards, has gone through many identities over the years due to his many journeys through time and space, but in order to simplify this a bit, the MCU instead introduced the concept of variants in Loki. With the help of his variant, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Loki (Tom Hiddleston) learned that the one behind the TVA was He Who Remains, who then told them the story of how and why he created this organization. According to him, Nathaniel Richards, while on Earth, discovered the existence of the multiverse and alternate versions of himself, with one of those variants causing them to meet so they could all share their knowledge and technology. However, some of those variants, among those Kang the Conqueror, saw the existence of alternate universes as places to rule over, triggering a Multiversal War. He Who Remains later discovered the trans-temporal entity known as Alioth and used its power to end the war, after which he isolated a collection of realities with the same baseline and created the Sacred Timeline.

In order to keep a close eye on the Sacred Timeline, He Who Remains created the TVA, an organization located outside of space and time and tasked with preserving the Sacred Timeline and preventing the creation of even more branches. At the end of Loki, He Who Remains gave Sylvie and Loki two choices: kill him and let the Sacred Timeline branch out and his variants to cause chaos, or become his disciples and the next leaders of the TVA. However, Sylvie didn’t trust him, so she sent Loki back to the TVA thanks to a TemPad while she killed He Who Remains, and when Loki landed back at the TVA, he realized Kang had taken over, as there was now a giant Kang statue in the middle of the TVA HQ. Kang will return in Quantumania as he will serve as the main villain, but it’s unknown what his role in it will be.

Why The TVA Didn’t Interfere In Endgame

When the purpose of the TVA and how it operates was revealed, many questions arose about events in past MCU movies where the TVA should have intervened, mostly during the events of Avengers: Endgame. The fourth Avengers movie saw the surviving heroes coming up with a plan to bring back half of life in the universe, and the solution was traveling back in time through the Quantum Realm. It was explained in Loki that the TVA let the Time Heist happen because they knew the Avengers (or more like Steve Rogers) would return the Infinity Stones to their respective points and places in time… except for the Tesseract, which 2012 Loki stole, making way for the events of his TV show. However, there might have been another, more personal reason to let the Time Heist and the battle that followed happen.

Theory: The Time Heist Was Part Of Kang’s Plans To Defeat His Variants

How This Theory Leads To Avengers: Secret Wars

MCU Kang With Secret Wars And Quantum Realm Background

More Kang variants are confirmed to appear in the MCU’s near future, so The Kang Dynasty is expected to be the movie that will see Kang’s variants coming together once more and triggering a multiversal war. Keeping the above-mentioned theory in mind, if the Avengers and the rest of the MCU’s heroes are tricked by Kang into killing his variants just so he can take control of the multiverse, this would be a fitting prelude to Secret Wars. The sixth Avengers movie is taking its story from the Secret Wars comic book event, in which the various alternate universes in the Marvel Universe merged and created Battleworld – so, with his variants out of the way, Kang could move forward with his plans of conquering the multiverse and bringing all the timelines together to create one universe. With plot details about Avengers: The Kang Dynasty still a mystery, there are a number of possibilities of where the story will take the MCU’s characters, and linking Kang’s plans to the events of Avengers: Endgame is definitely possible.
