Eoin Macken, Zyra Gorecki, And Nicholas Gonzalez Talk La Brea

Screen Rant: With this being the last season of the series, I want to start by asking each of you how the experience of shooting the final episodes and bringing this journey to a close was.

Zyra Gorecki: Bittersweet. I just love these people, and I love everyone that I've worked with. For that to end, and for us to never be in the same space, same mindset, same everything ever again—that's just wild to my brain.

Nicholas Gonzalez: She's exactly right. The tough part is really just saying goodbye to everybody.

Eoin Macken: I'll miss acting with these people. We're still going to be friends because we get along really well, but when you get to act on screen with people that you care about and trust, I think it elevates what you're doing. It also makes it a lot of fun. I'm going to miss acting with these guys.

The pilot starts with Izzy losing her mom, and she’s lost her again going into the final season. How was coming full circle, and how is she handling that when we see her in season 3?

Zyra Gorecki: Not well. You lose your mom one time, not great. You lose your mom twice? That's just terrible. I think she's struggling really hard this time, because not only has she lost her mom, but she's in this headspace where it also feels a bit like she's losing her dad with him trying to find Eve, obviously. It's a bit lonely with her grief.

On that same note, how is Gavin handling it? He lost Eve in the pilot, as well.

Eoin Macken: To continue what Zyra said, I think Gavin actually thought that he was doing a really good job with Izzy. I think it takes him a while to realize that his singular focus was, in a way, detrimental to his relationship with Iz. It's really important for Gavin to understand that the two of them are there together. They become even more of a team, I think.

He has to shift his focus a little bit. There's a lot of Gavin's family and backstory that comes up, and that's what also makes it more complicated for him. All those complications are still driven by that need to bring the family back together. That doesn't change. He just has to be a little bit more aware of the macro elements sometimes.

Expanding on what you both just said, how do you think everything that's happened has managed to strengthen the bond between Gavin and Izzy?

Zyra Gorecki: I think we've actually seen a lot of growth in their relationship. We saw them apart for a while and getting back together and that relief, but also, them trying to figure out their own relationship. She's not a little girl anymore. She's not the little girl that he re. She continues to grow and has to grow because 10,000 B.C., obviously. [Gavin] trying to figure out how to communicate with her and how to connect with her was really interesting.

Asmara Feik as Petra, Nicholas Gonzalez as Levi, Chiké Okonkwo as Ty, Eoin Macken as Gavin, and Rohan Mirchandaney as Scott in La Brea 301

Nicholas, Levi’s actions in season 2 were fueled by loss and revenge. He finally got the family he wanted only for them to be taken away. Where might we find him at emotionally in season 3?

Nicholas Gonzalez: He's pretty broken—body and mind. Obviously, he doesn't really see any place for him to belong in a community and a family who he spent loving since they met. I don't think anybody wants anything to do with him at this point.

Do you think that your character still has feelings for Eve? Or has he managed to move past that during their time apart?

Nicholas Gonzalez: He's always going to love her, I think. That's the interesting thing with this show and the treatment of time and what time does. Levi has had this time away from this world, while everyone's still been living this adventure. Eve's had this breakaway for a while. I think that is what Owen alluded to when we were in another interview.

He was saying that, because of all these different elements and realizing so much more about the characters, everything's just kind of mixed around, and we get so much more of an understanding of what's pushing them or how much more complicated the relationship was than we even expected. That really brings such a texture and a depth to it. Even though we're in the midst of all this action and adventure, there's so much character that is injected in these six episodes.

I actually love the friendship between Gavin and Levi. I love that, despite everything that's happened between them, they're still there for one another. What is that going to look like in the final season?

Eoin Macken: It's tested, but at the same time, there's a nice understanding of what that friendship is and what that friendship means. I think that there is an appreciation for what they've gone through and an appreciation for Levi's feelings and the respect he has, not just towards Gavin's wife, but also towards Izzy and Josh. There's an awareness of how important these two people have been to each other. Even though there's still that antagonism there that's really important, because Gavin doesn't necessarily forgive him for what he's done, I think it hasn't completely overshadowed their original friendship.

Nicholas Gonzalez: There's too much history between these men. There's too much that's been risked—lives even and sacrifices for each other, even prior to this adventure with La Brea. We get a sense of how deep that runs.

We find out at the end of season 2 that Gavin has a sister, but it sounds like she may be a bit of a threat. What can you tease about that storyline this season?

Eoin Macken: All I can tell you is that his sister definitely shows up in season 3, and she's also like chaos personified in of what she brings to the show. She's a really lovely actress and a great person, but she gives an extra edge to what Gavin's backstory is. Izzy ends up meeting her. There's a whole shift to the dynamics of the family. She becomes very important in figuring out why all of this has happened and where Gavin's place is in the world. When we heard that twist last year, we were like, "Wait, what?" but it actually pays off in a really satisfying, important way. It's very cool.
