A Marvel Rivals player experienced a comedic moment in one of their recent games, with Dr. Strange attempting to trap the enemy team in their spawn, but instead, his portals were useless. Since the game's release toward the end of 2024, it's quickly become popular with players everywhere, garnering attention for its beloved playable Marvel characters. With a roster of people from Squirrel Girl to Spider-Man, there's a little something for everyone to enjoy and learn.
Reddit TLagPro captured a hilarious in-game moment where an enemy Dr. Strange doesn't quite understand how his portals actually work. By placing two portals in front of their spawn doors, they believe they've trapped the team inside, but instead, they just walk straight through. At the tail end of a competitive game where this could've made all the difference, this Dr. Strange doesn't quite know what he's doing to pull it off.
Dr. Strange Portals Can Be A Bit Tricky To Grasp In Marvel Rivals
Some Marvel Rivals Abilities Are Confusing To Master
Most players will have experienced the struggle of misusing an ability, and this Dr. Strange is no exception. Instead of placing one portal facing towards the door and another facing away from it, he placed both portals facing outwardly. This, of course, meant that players were not stuck in a loop but could walk straight through this supposed trap.

There are a lot of ways that players can utilize Dr. Strange's portal tech, some even griefing their teams, but this has to be one of the most ingenious if done right. While one of the best abilities in the game, s like Bobby5x3 remind gamers that it's a challenge to use, sharing that they've also had epic fails, writing, "Once I brought the entire enemy team to point." Commenter Gremlin303 also adds, "Every Strange player has done this once or twice. It’s a learning curve", ing them as they work out the difficult mechanics.
Our Take: The OP Is Right; Dr. Strange Did Try His Best
Marvel Rivals Has A Lot Of Difficult Tech To Learn
While one of the coolest abilities that Marvel Rivals has to offer, Dr. Strange's portals are equally one of the hardest, as they require a lot of careful thought and strategy to make the best use of. Even other players often misunderstand how Dr. Strange's portals work, jumping into enemy portals and dying without thinking it through. With a lot of complexity to master them, it's no surprise that it's a bit of a learning curve to get there.
This isn't the only character in-game with an ability that requires some planning to pull off, as Scarlet Witch's ultimate can also be a death wish if done thoughtlessly. With such a long wind-up and low health, even with the latest boost to her health during the ultimate, many don't know how to best make use of her. This complexity of Marvel Rivals is what keeps the game so exciting, though, with team-ups, strategies, and more to make every game feel unique.
