HBO's mansion in Mountainhead's story, many fans of the film have wondered where they can actually find the house. Luckily, the filming location for Mountainhead has already been revealed, and here's what state and city the Mountainhead mansion is in.

Mountainhead is the latest film from Succession creator Jesse Armstrong, with Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef making up the cast. The film is set in a world where the recent rollout of a generative artificial intelligence platform has plunged the world into chaos, causing political unrest, violence, and global instability. Amid this chaos, four tech billionaires head to a secluded mountain lodge where they hide from the consequences of their actions while attempting to find a way to profit from the instability.

Mountainhead's House Is Located In Utah

At A $65 Million Mountain Estate

Mountainhead's real-world filming location isn't far off from its in-universe setting, as the film was mostly shot on-location in Park City, Utah. According to Decider, the Mountainhead mansion is a luxury ski house located in the Deer Valley area of Park City, Utah. The estate is 21,378 square feet, and things seen in the film like the bowling alley and the basketball court are actually located in the real house. The mansion features seven bedrooms and 16 bathrooms, some of which are seen throughout the story of Mountainhead.

Interestingly, the Deer Valley estate is up for sale right now, with it costing $65 million. So, if any Mountainhead fans have an extra $65 million lying around, they can look into buying the mansion on its official website, the Mountainhead cast did not stay there during filming, the entire filming team spent a lot of time in the luxury ski house. Most of the film's five-week-long shoot took place inside its walls, creating Hugo Van Yalk's impressive billionaire fortress.

While it made up the bulk of the film, the Deer Valley estate was not the sole filming location in Mountainhead. At one point in the film, the four characters go hiking in the snowy mountains, with them painting their net worths on their chests. This scene was filmed on Snowbird Mountain in Snowbird, Utah, a community near Salt Lake City. A few other locations, such as some scenes involving a private jet, were shot on a green screen.

Mountainhead's Filming Was Very Unusual

The Script Wasn't Written Until January 2025

One of the reasons that Mountainhead was filmed in so few locations is that the production of the film was incredibly unusual. Pre-production started in late 2024, with the task of finding the location being one of the first steps. In December 2024, Mountainhead production designer Stephen Carter was brought on to the film. At this point, there was no script, and the cast had not been decided on yet. Jesse Armstrong began writing the Mountainhead script in January 2025, with HBO deciding to fast-track the movie soon after.

After doing location scouts in several snowy mountainous regions across North America, the Deer Valley estate in Park City, Utah was finally decided on. Filming began in March 2025, only two months after Armstrong had begun writing the script. Principal photography lasted for five weeks, with most of it taking place within the Deer Valley estate. This would have put the end of Mountainhead's production sometime in April. Then, post-production began, with Mountainhead being edited and finished in under two months before it was released by HBO in May 2025.
