Vampires are a very real threat in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, but when it comes to "A Brotherhood Betrayed," the case doesn't seem so open and shut. Wandering the streets of Bruma, you can easily stumble across a crime scene involving a couple of dead bodies. A local man named Bradon Lirrian has been killed, but according to the city guard, he was actually the vampire culprit behind the recent deaths of several beggars.
Bradon's wife, however, isn't as convinced, and the entire affair seems to be propped up on the testimony of an alleged vampire hunter named Raynil Dralas. The quest "A Brotherhood Betrayed" provides an opportunity to get to the heart of the matter. It's a multistep investigation quest that involves talking to the right people and seeking out the right places, but at the end of the line, you'll find both the answers you seek and some potential rewards.

How To Start A Brotherhood Betrayed
Head To Bradon Lirrian's Home
You can hear about Bradon's death in Bruma town gossip, but you don't need to learn about the situation secondhand to start the quest. Head directly to Bradon Lirrian's home, which is marked on the map in Bruma. There, you'll find Bradon's corpse, a couple of guards, and his widow all packed into a small room.
Don't attempt to loot Bradon's body. You'll only get a warning the first time, but a bounty will immediately be placed on your head if you try again.
Get Carius Runellius, one of the guards, to open up about the situation by using the persuasion minigame to raise his opinion of you. After receiving his rundown, talk to Erline Lirrian in the same room to get her perspective and agree to help her out.
How To Find Raynil Dralas In A Brotherhood Betrayed
Every NPC You Need To Talk To
If you ask around, you'll find out that Raynil Dralas is staying at Olav's Tap and Tack, the cheaper inn located near the east gate. You won't find him here, but you'll need to speak to Olav, the proprietor. Raise his opinion of you through persuasion, then talk to him about Raynil to receive a key to the vampire hunter's room. Head inside the room and look behind the dresser to find a book called Gelebourne's Journal.
Reading Gelebourne's Journal will reveal that Bradon and Raynil were both part of an adventuring trio, with Gelebourne being the third member. The three ended up with the three keys to some kind of magical amulet, placing significant suspicion on Raynil's claim that Bradon was a vampire. Although simply reading the book will update your quest, make sure to add it to your inventory before leaving Olav's Tap and Tack.

Oblivion Remastered: Should You Kill Roland Jenseric?
The Oblivion Remastered quest “Order of the Virtuous Blood” introduces a mysterious organization of vampire hunters where nothing is what it seems.
Head back to Bradon's home and present the evidence to Carius Runellius — if you did leave the book behind, he won't take you seriously until you run back and get it. Once you've convinced him, Carius will ask you to meet him at Olav's in an hour. When he shows up at the promised time, Carius will tell you that Dralas has left town and suggest looking for him in a nearby cave that matches a description in the journal. He'll mark it on your map, so you can head there directly.
Carius will also tell you that you might only have a day to catch Raynil, a threat that holds true. You have a 24-hour time limit to work with before Raynil will escape, so go to the cave immediately. Make sure you have your equipment ready before heading inside, as Raynil is inside and eager to fight. Kill him, take the keys from his corpse, and open the chest in the main cavern to receive a Mundane Amulet. You can also head to the right for a bit of additional cave looting, but there isn't much to explore here.
A Brotherhood Betrayed Quest Rewards
A Valuable Amulet
Once you have the amulet, return to Braden's home and talk to Erline again. She'll reveal the true power of the amulet by speaking the word "Brotherhood" over it, turning it into a Phylactery of Litheness that she'll give to you. This amulet applies a moderate Fortify Speed effect to your character.

10 Best Skills To Upgrade In Oblivion, No Matter Your Class
In Oblivion, enhancing your skills is a crucial aspect of progressing your character, so you'll want to pump them up as soon as possible.
With all that done, you've completed "A Brotherhood Betrayed" — there's no need to return to Carius to wrap things up. While you can't save Bradon from the vampire hunter in this quest, you can get a nice amulet for some generally light work, so anyone who wants to move a bit faster in Oblivion Remastered might as well help Erline out.
