Warning: This article contains spoilers for Outer Banks seasons 3 and 4.JJ's (Rudy Pankow) biological father.
Along with this, Outer Banks season 4 follows the Pogues as they attempt to search for Blackbeard's lost treasure, the Blue Crown, in order to save their business. Though the group faces new, dangerous enemies, they outsmart those around them again and set sail for Morocco. While Outer Banks season 4's ending sees the group face a huge tragedy, it also creates a lot of potential for the final season, particularly in the direction that the Cameron family will go, with Rafe (Drew Starkey) ing the Pogues and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) making a life-changing announcement.
Outer Banks Season 5's Sarah Pregnancy Story May Finally Reveal What Happened To Her Mother
The Cameron Family Has Always Had Secrets
While JJ's death is undeniably the most shocking thing that happens in Outer Banks season 4, Sarah's pregnancy announcement comes in at a close second. Especially because the group is in such constant danger and moves around so much, her pregnancy could create a new variable and make the Pogues more vulnerable than ever. Though they will have to be more careful than before, Sarah's pregnancy also gives Outer Banks the chance to finally explore what really happened to the Cameron siblings' mother.
Because Sarah is now pregnant, season 5 would be the perfect time to delve into more of the background of Sarah's troubled relationship with her own parents.
In season 1, the Cameron family is introduced as the three children, Rafe, Sarah, and Wheezie (Julia Antonelli), their father Ward, and his wife Rose (Caroline Arapoglou). Rose is their stepmother, though she usually seems pretty noncommittal towards them, but the show never explains what happened to the children's biological mother. However, because Sarah is now pregnant, season 5 would be the perfect time to delve into more of the background of Sarah's troubled relationship with her own parents. The show's creators have even hinted as much.

I'll Be Furious If The Pogues Don't Avenge JJ's Death In Outer Banks Season 5 — 7 Things That Need To Happen In The Netflix Show's Final Season
With Outer Banks season 5 as the show's last, there is a lot to resolve for the Netflix series.
When discussing season 4's huge ending, Jonas Pate shared with Netflix: "Sarah's got this big hole in her life with her mother. So that's something we're thinking about going forward." Outer Banks has always placed a big importance on the parental figures (or lack thereof) in the teenagers' lives, so it makes sense that Sarah's pregnancy would prompt her to reflect on this. Whether or not audiences actually see her mother appear as a character or simply find out what happened to her, Outer Banks seems set to finally explore her absence.
The Cameron Siblings Aren't The Only Ones With A Mother Mystery To Solve In Outer Banks Season 5
John B's Mother Has Never Been Discussed Either
Sarah's family situation will likely be the most important one the show dissects in season 5, given that her father is dead, she is not close with her stepmother, and she has a love-hate relationship with her older brother. However, the Cameron family mystery is not the only one that needs to be addressed in Outer Banks' final season. All the way back in season 1 of Outer Banks, John B is introduced as living by himself because his father is missing. Though audiences do eventually learn that Big John is alive, John B's mother is never brought up.
The show is no stranger to having seemingly dead characters show up, so this could be the case for either Sarah's mother or John B's mother.
Outer Banks has already had several parent and family history-related reveals, so it is not out of the realm of possibility that even John B's mother could appear in season 5. The simplest explanation for her absence is that she ed away when John B was a child, but that almost feels so simple that the show would have just stated it in a conversation somewhere. After this many seasons, her absence and lack of even a cursory mention are very strange, especially because John B was alone at home for so long.
Because each season so far has had some sort of family mystery, from Pope's (Jonathan Daviss) relation to Denmark Tanny (Elizabeth Mitchell) to JJ's secret family, it seems likely that Outer Banks season 5 might continue this trend. The show is no stranger to having seemingly dead characters show up, so this could be the case for either Sarah's mother or John B's mother. Whether either ends up appearing or not, their memories and places in Sarah and John B's lives will certainly play a role in Outer Banks season 5 as the pair prepare for parenthood.
