Pathfinder 2e offers a Summoner class for players who want to rely on a creature called an Eidolon in battle. Rather than focus on their own strengths, Summoners often design their characters around empowering their Eidolon and offering a bit of on the side. With all the character creation options available in Pathfinder 2e, creating an efficient Summoner can be difficult given the need to balance strengthening the Eidolon and making sure that the Summoner itself has separate spells to use in combat.
Whether an experienced player is making a Summoner for the first time or a player new to Pathfinder from DnD-post OGL changes has made the move, choosing character options can lead to a dive into an overwhelming number of choices without necessarily listing which are the best ones for Summoner specifically. While creating a Summoner doesn't mean creating two separate characters due to the Eidolon, it can still be complicated to create an efficient character. The number of actions that Summoners can take in a turn can also complicate matters, as the character build can give them as many as five actions to take in a turn.
The Best Pathfinder 2e Ancestry For Summoners
Some of the best Ancestries for Summoners are Human, Kobold, and Gnome, although other options like Halfling and Tengu are viable depending on Heritage and Feats. For new players, understanding character Archetypes, Ancestries, and Classes in Pathfinder 2e can be useful in building a new character, especially one that has features to make it more complex like Summoners' Eidolons. Of the three best Ancestries, Gnome is likely the most ideal for creating a Summoner with Ability Boosts in desirable abilities and flaws that don't hurt.
Ideal Summoner Backgrounds & 1st Level Class Feats In Pathfinder 2e
While any background with Constitution and Charisma is a good option for a Summoner in Pathfinder, the one that sticks out the most is Eidolon . Eidolon gives two Ability Boosts, one of which must be given to Constitution or Charisma; the player trains in Arcana, Nature, Occultism, or Religion and Lore for their Eidolon; and they gain the Dubious Knowledge Feat. For Class Feats, players will want to look at selecting Expanded Senses, Advanced Weaponry, Meld Into Eidolon, or Unfettered Eidolon, all of which either boost the Eidolon or offer some abilities to the Summoner.
Although Pathfinder is among the best digital tabletop RPGs, the variety it provides can be daunting when creating characters. Summoners can be particularly tricky to design in a way that makes them efficient without sacrificing their own strength or the strength of their Eidolon. However, a good character foundation can make getting through the sometimes difficult early levels easier in a TTRPG as crunchy as Pathfinder 2e.
