See AllWheel Of Time's Cancellation Is Terrible News For Hollywood's Post-Game Of Thrones Fantasy Show Trend
Just like in a previous article this author is either unable, but more likely and which is worse, unwilling to adress the real reason shows are cancelled. It's because the morons with the money put lunatics in charge.
To quote "The Wheel of Time was the greatest chance to develop something on the scale of Game of Thrones". Yes, Wheel of Time could have been great. But if only they actually produced something faithful or even remotely resembling the books, but about the only thing the series had in common with the books was it's name.
So instead of drawing the booklovers who are fans already and try to expand the fanbase they pervert the orignal material to a degree almost every original fan hates it. This is not the way you want to go about to building a big IP.
And this is a consistent pattern. Bad writing, bad casting, inserting modern activism and social commentaries were they are not needed, but especially not wanted. And any critique gets the usual reviewbomb and -isms / -obes accusations like scripted clockwork from the usual suspects. And in the end the intended audience is deemed the problem or it wasn't meant for the part of the audience that doesn't like and they're invited to touch some grass. And when they do it's STILL their fault.
I happened to stumble over a quote of Tolkien who said it far more eloquent then I could ever hope: "The moment disbelief arises, the spell is broken; the magic, or rather art, has failed. You are then out in the Primary World again, looking at the little abortive Secondary World from outside."
If you don't appeal to your audience no amount of money, or postering for that matter, can save you.
I'd say good riddance and I hope Rings of Power follows right behind it.
