Had the game done things like in the show, then maybe the hate wouldn't be so /as intense. But they didn't. He was just slaughtered, right in front of us, helpless. GAME SPOILERS FFROM THIS POINT ON!!!!!

Then halfway through the game you see two more emotionally charged deaths in which you are helpless to stop, at the hands of Abbie. Once that happens, you are Then forced to play the game from the perspective of Abby, playing the story parallel to what you experience as Ellie. You are force fed Abby's motivation. And the players hate that they have to empathize with her. It's something we have no interest in doing. We have to experience her as a human. A person. And not the monster we see when playing as Ellie. Forced to understand her complexities, flaws, ans strengths of character. We hate it. And that's the point. Everyone has a reason to be heinous, violent, and vengeful. And everyone has a reason to be compationate, loving, and tender. Perspective changes everything, and it doesn't matter if you like it.
