I think the real key is that the book wasn’t about June. They didn’t even reveal her name. She was Offred, just one of many. And whilst it wasn’t confirmed, there was a decent chance she died. She certainly didn’t become some big news story or speak at trials, or else the historians 100 years later wouldn’t have questioned her existence/validity. The book was an example of the many women who could face this. The series became all about June.
