This is an adaptation, if it was a literal reproduction of the books, it would be ridiculously long and boring with large sections dedicated to history lessons.
if you are honest with yourself, you would probably never be happy with any adaptation.
noone will be entirely happy with an adaptation, but you should welcome the added uncertainty to the storyline and alternate perspectives of characters and places. Otherwise just go and read the books again.

I feel the reviewer has never read the books and is failing to understand the complexities of the tower and other politics.
I am watching this with my son and he clearly followed the use of tower rules for the coup and understood many of the potential consequences from the declaration of two car'a'carns.
It is interesting that a teenager with no knowledge of the books can easily follow the storyline, yet this reviewer seemed to miss what was put right in front of their eyes.

Seriously, this is it's own piece of work. As far as adaptations go, it has done a fairly good job of keeping true to the characters and lore of the books.
I feel sorry for you having not seen more than the first series. The character development and overall production quality has been constantly developing.
To ignore the need for change in order to make it work for a different media suggests a lack of understanding how the different media work.
It is called an adaptation after all.
Maybe you would prefer an audio book, but then the characters voices and speech patterns might not match your expectations.

Any fan of fantasy adaptations should understand the limitations imposed by the screen are different from that of the literature. I was shocked by the death of Siuan. But it is their choice and adds a level of intrigue to the coming episodes.
If they were to make it truly faithful, there would have to be 20 odd episodes per book with an introduction to relevant history and intermissions to add further detail. Some episodes would be mind numbingly boring and barely move the story on. It is the nature of the media.
This might appeal to a select few fans. But it would send most viewers to sleep.
This show has been handled well, they have been honest about needing to make some changes. The majority of characters are coming along well and the fact that I don't know exactly what is going to happen next makes it all much more interesting.
I find it strange that fans of fantasy often have such big hang ups about people being creative. This series has become much better as it has gone on and I for one am excited to see what they do with it.
I am also grateful that I can encourage my son to read the books in the knowledge that there will still be plenty of surprises for him.
