A charming movie about family that ends up with a different perspective than most. While this may not have been Pixar's greatest hit in recent times, lovers of D&D, MTG, and other nerdy flair will feel represented in this movie! The relationship between Ian and Barley (the elf brothers) is very relatable as siblings, especially with their shared connection of the loss of their dad. The entire movie, you're rooting for them to succeed, which also being exasperated by Barley's antics. However, he is such a lovable character that you really want him to do what is right, but also somewhat pity him. The voice acting is fantastic and fun, and the mother is such a strong character who interacts organically with her kids. They also did an excellent job of the Mom's Boyfriend/Step Dad representation, making him a somewhat funny character but without the classic trope of "invader to our family." I'm very please at the representation of relationships in this movie, and the ultimate lesson with Ian, Bradley, and their dad was unexpected and tear jerking!

Absolutely LOVE this movie. Jordan Peele has a refreshing, unique way of handling cinematography, scene writing, and sound design for his movies. From the moment the film opens on a singular rabbit, then zooms out to a wall full of rabbit cages to an eerie yet not "scary" vocal track, I was hooked. The plot was excellently laid out with a perfectly placed "gotcha" moment where you knew the truth all along, and the twist and turns and postulations on "What is happening!?" made the movie extremely exciting. One of my favorite but most important aspects for this movie is how organic conversations are between the family . They cut each other off, talk over one another, and genuinely converse rather than pure "Exposition Dialogue" that is so incredibly common these days. I've loved every Jordan Peele film and am sure he will continue to please.

Pacific Rim: Uprising

I was very hopeful that this would be another excellent, entertaining Kaiju film like the first one but sadly... it was not. While there were still more monsters to be fought, the story and stakes were not presented as well in the first film. While not bad, the characters were much more forgettable than the first film, and it feels like less time was spent getting the audience acquainted with them and their motives. The action of course was still exciting, but you could feel like the goal was to outpace its predecessor, with shoehorned, sudden moments of action. Overall, I wouldn't watch it again, but do not necessarily regret watching it in the first place. If you're wanting an action packed kaiju movie, it was acceptable.

The Incredibles 2

Somehow they pulled it off. Most Disney sequels are not very well received, but there are a few outliers, and The Incredibles 2 is one of them. Though much time has ed, Pixar managed to keep the same feeling of the original in this new story, focusing heavily on family dynamics and social repercussions of superheros. While maybe lacking in iconic moments like the first film, the movie was full of humor while still taking itself seriously enough. The villain twist is one that some may have seen coming, but was still executed well in a way that you're not left disappointed. I greatly enjoyed this movie and hope we have another of the same quality sometime in the future!

Intense, awe inspiring, and shockingly scientifically accurate. Interstellar is an absolute masterpiece covering not only in depth scientific exploration but also the nature of humanity. While thrilling and action packed in moments regarding space exploration, the main story is that of love and what it means to be human, and how there are things that don't necessarily follow the laws of physics. The cast is amazing at their roles, and I have a special fondness for TARS and CASE, the two robots that them on their journey, due to there exceptionally human and borderline "blasé" attitudes. With several plot twists and difficult choices, this movie is sure to keep you engaged.

Fantastic movie about the growing pains of trying to fit in and find friendship as a child. Luca is a refreshing take on children's movies where there is no "Big Bad Guy." Instead, the tale is one of adventure and wonder as Luca befriends Alberto after discovering they share the secret of being merfolk. Alberto manages to show Luca what the world is like on land, without rehashing tropes from tales like The Little Mermaid. This is a lighthearted film with a few moments of distress but lacking any major peril or danger, yet was still entirely engaging. Highly underrated!

An absolute masterpiece with heartwarming, funny, and emotional scenes. Tom Hank's role as Forrest is masterfully done, with conscientious portrayal of his disabilities. For its time, the cinematography and CGI moments where Forrest is interjected into real history was shown so well that some people wondered if it was true! The gutwrenching moments during the war and portrayal of political unrest was done tastefully and accurately. Overall, this is a wonderful movie with a beautiful, icon music score and packed with plot action. Highly recommended.

Enjoyable at first, but ends up falling apart after a while. The main plot line revolving around Emma Swan, Henry, Regina, and Mary is a pretty tight, exciting tale with several twists and turns. The concept of modern day fairy tales, such as those from Fables, has always been very enjoyable to me. The concept of a "town outside of time" where fairytale stories have come to life was an exciting draw. Seeing long forgotten characters represented in a modern adaptation was very exciting for the first several seasons. However, once the main plot/conflict with Emma resolves, the story becomes a bit disted. Emma's (Jennifer Morrison's) departure from the show made me unfortunately lose interest, with the remaining cast not being quite as captivating.
