Actually NO, that's not the feeling Superman should or ever did elicit. The feeling Superman should elicit is to make us want to be the best version of ourselves. That's what he does, even though he has the power to over take the planet, he lives a simple life of a farmer first and then journalist.

That's why Snyder's Superman was so divisive. He acted more like a villanous Superman than a heroic one. He literally destroys the livelihood of a guy because he threw a soda can at him. Superman would never do that.
