Jigsaw
Actually like this one more than most in the Saw franchise. The franchise as a whole is a lot of fun and it is cool seeing how to twists piece themselves together to fit into the overall narrative of the series. Loved the direction that this one went in and was genuinely thrilling throughout. Was not expecting to see where it landed on the timeline or the bigger picture overall. Some gnarly kills are always welcome.

Cars 2
I genuinely enjoy this film even though most Pixar fans seems to hate it. Like the setting a lot. Think it looks gorgeous. I just had a lot of fun with this one. Don't get the Mater hate in this one. He could have been even more annoying but he is endearing in this for me. Not as good as the first of course but enjoyed it more than Cars 3 and a lot of other Pixar films.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
A step up from the first film in every single way. One of the best YA adaptations ever and definitely the best YA dystopian adaptation. The bigger budget does wonders for this movie and showcasing how wild this hunger games actually is. Loved the book and loved the movie. Takes the series in an interesting direction that people not familiar with the source material might find really surprising.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
Doesn't quite live up to the iconic first one. Not many comedic films of that era do. But it is still a hilariously good time throughout that is deceptively smart with what it wants to say. Will Ferrell is the best as Ron Burgandy. Don't think they could have gotten someone better for these movies. Some moments are ridiculously funny.

Morbius
A fascinating look at why the Sony Spider-Man cinematic universe is an inherently flawed idea. What's this supposed to do? Why would anyone care? Maybe if these films would actually make their characters the villains they are supposed to be it could be a bit more entertaining, but making them into anti-heroes doesn't make sense. This movie is boring.

Jessica Jones
The most lowkey Defenders saga shows which is a good thing. It allows to really explore Jessica Jones a a character. Love how strong her characterization is throughout the series. Think the first season is one of the best of all the Netflix Marvel shows. Loses me towards the end of the series though.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes
This is probably my favorite movie of the Caesar reboot trilogy. Like how it takes its time in setting up the beginning of the apes fighting back. Structured like a superhero movie of the time which is kind of funny. Think this one is a bit more lighthearted for portions of it compared to the Matt Reeves' one which I appreciate. Planet of the Apes doesn't need to be the most serious franchise ever.

Cars 3
This might sound wild, but I like Cars 2 a bit so this newest installment felt like a bit of a let down for some reason. Might need to go back and rewatch it, though as I like the Cars franchise overall. Think it is playing with some interesting ideas and I like the direction they took Lightning but it just wasn't that engaging for me.

Us
Think this is Jordan Peele's weakest movie but that means that it is still really good. Some truly terrifying moments throughout and I think it is dealing with some pretty interesting themes all around. Love how original it feels though. Always down for directors that are really going for it.

Black Mirror
Black Mirror is hit or miss for me. When they do something really good, I love it. It makes me think about what they are trying to say and also just being highly entertaining. When they miss, though, it is painfully boring. Still think about a number of the episodes sometimes.

Thor: Ragnarok
Not my favorite MCU film but think it is pretty solid. Quite funny before Taika Waititi went off the deep end with jokes in Love & Thunder. Thought that Thor had some pretty good character growth throughout and made the character more energetic and fun than he had ever been prior to this movie.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Ghost in the Shell 2 is basically tied for me with the first film for how much I love it. This actually might be a bit higher. Truly love the blend of 3D animation with the traditionally drawn portions. Gives the film an identity of its own that doesn't feel like anything else. Love how contemplative this story is and that Batou takes over as the main character. Very very good.

Guardians of the Galaxy
This was a delightful new direction for the MCU when it first came out. Really opened up the cosmic side of the universe in ways that no other movie did before it. The group of characters are so well realized that you can't help but root for them to succeed no matter what. An almost perfect start to the MCU's best trilogy.

Whisper of the Heart
Whisper of the Heart is such a tender film about young love and working towards something that you really want. Love how cozy this film is and the Country Roads cover in this is wonderful. The characters are so real and vibrant. I wanted them to succeed in whatever it is they wanted to do. One of Ghibli's best.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
Princess Kaguya is one of the most gorgeous Studio Ghibli movies ever which is high praise considering the studio's prestige. The water color style art is truly astonishing giving the film a specific feel that isn't matched by many other animated movies. It's bittersweet watching this film as it was the last one from the late Isao Takahata.

Justice League
This movie is bad. At least watchable the principle behind it makes it hard to get through. Never been on board with Whedon as a director and especially as a writer and this movie proves exactly why. Truly ugly to look at. That color grade is horrendous.

Bo Burnham: Inside
Love how honest this special is. Of course it is performative but it doesn't feel manipulative. Some really creative songs throughout this one and the production is fantastic for being inside a room by himself. All Eyes on Me is a generation defining masterpiece.

Deadpool
Deadpool is decent enough but my biggest issue with this movie and the entire series is that I just don't like Deadpool as a character that much. Either in the movies or the comics. Just not my type of thing most of the time. This movie is pretty funny though. Some creative action scenes that deserved a bigger budget.

The Matrix Reloaded
A solid follow up to a monumental film. The action is sublime from beginning to end. Some of the most thrilling set pieces I have ever seen. Does buckle a bit under its own worldbuilding that becomes a bit unwieldy and drawn out. Still, love how there was a certain vision for these movies that is so well realized.

Before Sunset
Before Sunset is one of my favorite movies of all time and my personal favorite in the Before trilogy. Linklater, Hawke, and Delpy truly create something magical here. Feels so much more mature than the first one and perhaps even more romantic which is almost impossible to pull off. One of my favorite endings ever. Love how they don't stop talking the entire movie and Linklater makes the choice to finally have silence towards the end in the perfect moment. Masterclass.
