2019's Ready or Not was tons of fun, with it following Samara Weaving's newlywed Grace Le Domas after she realizes that she has to play an overnight game of hide and seek with her husband's family. However, if she is caught, she will die. Although Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett had directed some great movies before, the success of Ready or Not is what really allowed their careers to take off, with it landing them the job of directing Scream and Scream VI. The directors are now returning to direct Ready or Not 2, something that is incredibly exciting.

Ready or Not actually isn't Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's most recent original horror franchise, as they actually released a film in 2024: Abigail. The vampire heist film was a lot of fun, with one Abigail Easter egg teasing a crossover with Ready or Not. In the film, a portrait of an ancestor of the Le Domas family from Ready or Not can be seen. The story of Abigail could perfectly connect to the lore of the Le Domas family, with the survival of Melissa Barrera's Abigail character teasing a perfect crossover with Ready or Not 2.

Unfortunately, Abigail was not a box office success, with it only making $42.4 million on a budget of $28 million. Because of this, it is doubtful that the film will be getting a sequel, meaning that the survival of Barrera's character may not be paid off. However, the announcement of Ready or Not 2 provides the perfect way for Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett to continue their horror cinematic universe, with Barerra and Weaving appearing in the film together as they uncover the connection between the Le Domas family and Abigail's vampires.

Since Abigail Probably Isn't Getting A Sequel

Despite the film being a box office disappointment, Melissa Barrera was fantastic in Abigail. It would be a wasted opportunity for the character to never have her story continued, and Ready or Not 2 may be the last opportunity for the directors to do so. Ready or Not is the only film that has a teased connection with Abigail, and missing out on this opportunity would be a disservice to her character.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Melissa Barrera return in Ready or Not 2, as she has become a frequent collaborator with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett. Barrera has starred in three of the directors' films, with those being Scream, Scream VI, and Abigail. Now that the directors and Barrera are not returning for Scream VII, it is possible that they could work on another project together in the future. Ready or Not 2 would be the ideal place for the directors to continue their collaborations with her, bringing back her character from 2024's Abigail.

Weaving & Barrera's Characters Can Work Together

Since Ready or Not and Abigail are both horror comedies, there are plenty of hilarious ways that Samara Weaving and Melissa Barrera's characters can be brought together in Ready or Not 2. Both films end in incredibly similar ways, with the two protagonists leaving the mansions that they had to survive throughout the night in. Ready or Not 2 could have one of the characters hear about the other one's story, with them reaching out due to how similar their situations are.

Their friendship could lead to both of them working together to survive whatever horrific threat Ready or Not 2 presents, creating a proper Ready or Not and Abigail crossover. Whether or not the extended Le Domas family returns is yet to be seen, but with vampires and killer in-laws, there is all kinds of potential for the story of Ready or Not 2.
