Titans showrunner Greg Walker shares new details about the scrapped spinoff series that was in the works for Red Hood. After running since 2018, HBO Max's Titans officially came to an end this year as season 4, part 2 wrapped up the gritty Teen Titans drama on May 11. The Titans series finale saw the heroes take on Brother Blood once and for all while also sending the onto their new adventures after starting the team.

However, it appears the Titans showrunner had hoped to flesh out his universe with a potential spinoff for one of the series' previous prominent characters. In an interview with CinemaBlend, Walker revealed they had been looking at doing a Red Hood spinoff series with Currant Walters' Jason Todd, who returned in one of the final Titans season 4 episodes this year. The idea was that Red Hood would forces with Ravager and have Jericho - whose consciousness was inside her body - come back to play a larger role. According to Walker, they had only gotten as far as working on a Red Hood outline, sharing the following:

I mean, could you imagine? What would Rose be doing now? I can imagine her and Jason Todd connecting again. We had talked about that, we were playing around with a Red Hood spinoff and bringing Rose back. Chelsea’s such an extraordinary talent, and to be able to tap into that character again and have her brother’s consciousness out there in the world to tap into as well, would be fun. Yeah, that’s a story I would love to do in Season 5. If you can get a Season 5, I’ll do it. No, we sold it. [Writers] Bryan [Edward Hill] and Rich [Hatem] were working on an outline.

Could Titans Characters Return In Future DC Movies Or Shows?

While Titans may be done as an HBO Max show, the door isn't necessarily closed for them to return in future DC movies or series. James Gunn and Peter Safran are building their DC Universe to give Warner Bros. Discovery a new attempt at an interconnected franchise. While most of the characters are getting rebooted, they have also been open to the idea of having actors return to reprise their previous DC characters, including from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. In the new DC Universe, Gunn could always have his version of the Titans be played by the same actors, even if they were to have completely different backstories.

Having actors like Brenton Thwaites (Nightwing), Anna Diop (Starfire), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), or Superboy (Joshua Orpin) play fresh takes on their Titans characters would allow the show to maintain its continuity and not be tampered with after the series finale. The DC Universe iterations of their Titans heroes could be easily regarded as their doppelgangers in the larger multiverse, which is a concept that factored into the final season of the series. For example, integrating Thwaites as an established Nightwing in Batman: The Brave and The Bold would allow the new reboot to have something familiar while leaving room for new story directions for Dick Grayson.

Time will tell if Titans will ever see the light of day again in any capacity, whether it be through a series revival that would take them into season 5 or maybe continuing in comic form, similar to Smallville season 11. Hopefully, if the show can't continue, at least some of the actors could continue in Gunn's DC Universe in some capacity. But until that day comes, fans can continue to re-live Titans seasons 1-4 on HBO Max and Netflix internationally.
