Resident Alien season 3 had an explosive ending with several characters left in difficult circumstances, including Harry, who was trapped in a Gray alien prison. Meanwhile, on Earth, the residents of Patience all embark on various missions to uncover the truths that most concern them.
Resident Alien season 4 sees Harry return to Earth, but a lot has happened in his absence. Sheriff Mike (Corey Reynolds) and Liv (Elizabeth Bowen) continue investigating the mysterious goings-on in Patience, with a dangerous Mantid now causing havoc, while Asta (Sara Tomko) and D'Arcy (Alice Wetterlund) try to keep things under wraps. However, Mayor Ben (Levi Fiehler) and his wife, Kate (Meredith Garretson), confront the terrifying truth that they were faced with at the end of last season. With all the central figures more aware of aliens, season 4 has a lot going on.
Resident Alien Season 4 Continues To Deliver Big Laughs & High Stakes
The strength of Resident Alien largely comes from the balance it maintains between comedy and drama. For a sci-fi series revolving around the end of the world, it manages to keep things light a lot of the time. However, that comedy element doesn't overpower the serious nature of the drama and mystery playing out. And with more people aware of the aliens walking among them, the stakes have never been higher.
The characters and stories combine to make this series one that is fun to watch, as well as engaging.
Harry continues to be Earth's best hope for survival, but as a quirky alien who is struggling to contain and understand growing human emotions, things can get pretty dicey. Alan Tudyk's incredible performance, from his physical comedy to the way he portrays multiple aliens with distinct personalities, is the heart of the show, but many of the ing cast have established themselves as pivotal in a variety of ways. A particular standout in season 4 is Alice Wetterlund, as D'Arcy steps up to take a much more central role.
In addition, Meredith Garretson does a fantastic job exploring a wide range of emotions as Kate, adding more depth to a show that could easily settle into being pure comedy. The characters and stories combine to make this series one that is fun to watch, as well as engaging, and keeps you coming back to see what happens next, even four seasons in.
Resident Alien Shifts The Focus To The Town Of Patience
In every season up to season 4, Harry has been the center of attention. As the titular alien, Harry stands out in Patience, where his presence was initially threatening. But over time, Harry has assimilated to life on Earth and established a family of his own. This opens the door in season 4 for other characters to become far more significant and have their individual stories explored in more detail.
Resident Alien season 4 also heavily centers on the theme of family.
Several actors hold their own and help to elevate the series in season 4, but more than that, Resident Alien is more expansive than ever. It's far more community-driven now that the attention has moved off of Harry. Even his plans to destroy the Earth are far in the rearview mirror, which means the ominous Grey's have become a much greater threat, and far more terrifying than Harry ever was.
Resident Alien season 4 also heavily centers on the theme of family. From babies to parents and couples, the show gives a lot of time and attention to people and their individual relationships. And while season 4 makes effective use of a limited episode count, it would be great to see more of these stories get longer narrative arcs. As it stands, Resident Alien season 4 does the best it can with the limitations and pressures it is under.
Resident Alien season 4 premieres on Syfy on June 6, with episodes airing weekly.
