The spring 2025 anime season has been undeniably stacked with hit after hit. Between old favorites like Fire Force, Wind Breaker, and The Apothecary Diaries season 2, and new hits like Witch Watch, Kowloon Generic Romance, and To Be Hero X, there’s something for pretty much everyone, and nearly everything has been fun to watch because of that.
There are plenty of great anime to watch in the spring 2025 anime season, but that doesn’t mean people are watching every great anime. As with any anime season, it’s all too common for great anime to be ignored due to how great their competition is, and this spring is no different, as the best anime of spring 2025 is probably one that no one is watching, at least compared to some other shows. This isn’t the first time something like this happened, but with how great this particular show is, it’s probably the most egregious example in a while.
The Anime Everyone Needs To Be Watching Right Now Is An Underrated Slice Of Life Anime
Anime Series Produced By Bandai Namco Pictures And Streaming On HIDIVE; Based On The Manga By Hiroshi Fukuda
Of all the anime people could be watching this season, the one that deserves the most attention is Bandai Namco Pictures’ Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty. The series stars Lilisa Suzunomiya, a young girl trying to reinvent herself as a refined young lady after her family marries into high society. Lilisa’s new life has her abandoning the guitar she had played since childhood, but after meeting Otoha Kurogane, a genuine upper-class lady who’s secretly a foul-mouthed drummer, Lilisa regains her ion for guitar and profanity and decides to become a guitarist in secret while still being a “proper” young woman.
HIDIVE's New Slice Of Life Anime Completely Revolutionizes The Genre
What Makes Rock Is A Lady's Modesty So Special
Slice of life anime are nothing new, but Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty manages to stand out from its contemporaries in the best of ways. For starters, while many girl-centered music anime thrive off the friendliness of the character dynamics, Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty plays into its rock and roll aesthetic by having the main characters constantly shouting vulgarities, all of which is made out to be as over-the-top as possible. It’s an incredibly unique and hilarious take on a familiar genre, and the series never fails to find something wonderfully out-of-the-box for the cast to say or do.
That take on the genre also plays into another key part of the series: the homoerotic subtext. Anime with predominantly female casts are often filled with LGBTQ+ content, and the same is true here, but it’s far different, as Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty goes much harder with its LGBTQ+ content than its contemporaries, with frequent double entendres and BDSM imagery. Not only does it further play into the rock and roll aesthetic, but it even works to parody its genre, and it’s always fun to see just how far it can go with it.

10 LGBTQ+ Anime That Have Aged Surprisingly Well
Anime is a boundary-pushing medium, which means that many classic shows had positive LGBTQ+ representation before it was mainstream.
Above all else, what makes Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty special is the heart of its story. Underneath all the vulgar comedy and imagery, there’s a genuinely heartfelt story about being true to yourself and doing what makes you happy as opposed to just doing what people expect is appropriate, all of which gets to the heart of the rock and roll themes that the story is built on. Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty has a great story for expressing relatable themes in funny and unique ways, and that’s one of the biggest reasons why people should be watching it.
Rock Is A Lady's Modesty Does Music Unlike Any Other Band Anime
What Makes Rock Is A Lady's Modesty's Music So Great
As an anime about making music, Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty revolves heavily around its music scenes, and they do not disappoint. As a rock-themed anime, the rock tracks used by the anime stand out from the softer tracks that usually saturate the genre, but rather than just let things stand on a surface level, Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty has generally great music scenes filled with songs that are always fun to listen to. Much of the music is sampled from the Japanese rock band Band-Maid, and that collaboration does wonders to give the music a truly distinct style.
Taking things even further is the animation accompanying every music scene. While there are anime with far better visuals this year, not only are the 2D visuals consistently great, but the 3D animation, with motion capture performed by the of Band-Maid, is also surprisingly good, and in every music scene, Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty uses its mixture of creative 2D and 3D art and animation to give every music scene the perfect visuals to accompany every great track.
All of this reached its peak in the big performance in episode #9. When Lilisa finally went all-out after spending the entire performance being average, not only did the music take an immediate jump in quality, but the scene in question was filled with some of the most creative and all-around gorgeous art and animation of the series to date. Add in how well it played into Lilisa’s character arc, and Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty episode #9 was the best showing of how much the anime stands out from other band anime, all of which was great to see.
Why Aren't More People Talking About Rock Is A Lady's Modesty?
Rock Is A Lady's Modesty Is Criminally Underrated
Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty has so much going for it, and that begs the question of why more people aren’t talking about. Not only is it based on a rather obscure title that only just got licensed in English, but the anime also streams exclusively on the anime streaming site HIDIVE, which doesn’t guarantee popularity unless an anime is already being hyped up as a massive hit. With all of that in mind, there are plenty of good reasons why more people aren’t talking about Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty, despite how great an anime it is.
While it hasn’t been getting as much attention as other anime, every new episode has brought more and more attention to the series thanks to many of the points made about its writing and visuals, and at this rate, Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty has a genuine chance of going down as one of the biggest and all-around best anime of the spring 2025 anime season. An anime like Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty more than deserves that level of praise, and anyone who needs to understand why would be remiss to ignore it for any longer.
